*Sigh*

...Mommy and Daddy went for a snowboarding trip yesterday, and I knew we'd be gone for...well, ALL day, and I wasn't just going to leave Caliber in his crate, so I had asked my sister to watch him for me. He loves going there, her Golden Retriever and him get along great...he gets the Golden hoping and running around like he's a puppy again, and he's 11!! Anyways...we went to go pick him up lastnight, and everything was fine - until I woke up this morning.

Puke......EVERYWHERE! In his crate, the floor mat, our BED! Ooooh myyy...

So I asked my Sister - what happened, did he get into anything, garbage, did anyone feed him table scraps, did you catch him in the kitty litter....??

Low and behold.........my brother-in-law caught him casually helping himself to "his fair share" of kitty crunchies he loves oh so much. Evidently he felt MUCH better once he woke up with me, because he bounced around for his breakfast without hesitation.

So...Mommy had to make the good ol' chicken and white rice for lunch just to be sure everything was ok, because there isn't a vet's office around that was open to get him checked out. Besides, all the vets around here are rude and inconsiderate...I like my vet. So of course, because I had to run out and get all the goods to make his lunch, I decided to make a weeks worth of breakfast for him, since he seemed to gobble down the chicken and rice, and looked to me for more. Sorry buddy, that's enough or today!

I also picked up some whole(not split) chicken wings for his dinner...I thought I'd try the raw chicken wing thing...see how he does with that. But boy-oh-boy...he looooves them kitty crunchies! :rolleyes2:

Oh...mine so love the kitty krunchies too  I hate it when they feel the need to kiss me after that!!!

I'm sure he'll LOVE the wings...just make sure to feed it separate from kibble (if you feed that) as they have different digestion times and that cause tummy upset too.

I'm almost 3 months completely raw and I can't tell you how vigorous my kids eat and how well they are doing!!! I'm a believer now :smile2:

Yeah, GeeRome told me not to mix kibble and raw at the same time - but I'm just concerned about the quantity. He's one week shy of 6 months, and I don't think one wing will fill his tummy.(maybe for today cause he had a hefty lunch) but on any normal day? Will one be enough or two? And also - when he gets to the bone...do I let him just chew it down or take it away?

I would ask GeeRome about the quantity. It has something to do with a certain % of his weight. I am still trying to figure that out - hence Chinook is a little overweight! :eek2:

When feeding raw, the general guideline is 2-3% of the "Ideal Adult Body Weight". So you have to predict how much he will weigh as an adult and feed him 2-3% of that daily (2.5% is a good starting place).

As for chicken wings, they are VERY boney, not much meat on them at all. I would add some boneless meat to that meal as well. Too much bone can lead to constipation and uncomfortable poos.

I know...it's hard isn't it! I have some that are gaining...some that are losing...some are just right...sooo frustrating! But I'm loving the over all benefits of raw! I use 8oz. as my rough estimate for all of them since I haven't really weighed all of the dogs. Add to the thin ones...take away from the fat ones LOL

Now I'm working on the organs. They are soooo gross! I can't handle the squishy things and am trying to think of a way to make a "meatball" with the organs in them so I can freeze them and feed them that way. Otherwise, it might be something like the chicken livers so I don't have to cut them up :wink2:

I have to say that I have not had any stool issues that some people have. I don't think any of them have been loose since I started so I must be doing something right!

Yah, it's gross, but they love it and don't care:lol:! Chinook, my slightly overweight pup, he has a somewhat sensitive stomach to venison and elk. Maia, the 3 month old, well she has a stomach of steel! I was feeding mine mostly pre-made raw patties, but they are $$, so now I am switching over to me making their meals. I have found a farmer that will sell me whole chickens for get this $1!! Yup, they were the egg laying hens, so they are too 'tough' for human consumption (but good for soups and stuff, and my pups!!!) I figure I will just buy the offal patties from the pet store, so I don't have to worry about the organ meats, unless I find some at a deal somewhere or get them free from hunters :smile2:. There is so much to learn!
