Diva went to her last AKC conformation ,until she gets some more coat, this weekend. There was a major in bitches yesterday and just missed one day. Diva won her 12-18 month class both days and had a ball. She starting to figure out what she should be doing. My friend and her co owner handles her.

I took some picture while she was getting ready and this was the end product. Sorry its a little dark. The lighting was not the greatest for pictures.

I'll be showing her in UKC in Dec.:dead: Hope I remember what to do. I'm not good at it.:o

thank you. I really like her.

She moves like a dream and she has a personality to die for. A real look at me attitude. When I took that picture, all my friend did was move to the front of the table and she turned around and stacked like that all by herself.:biggrin2:

Your puppy looks very nice. What I would suggest to really finish it off, is trim her throat latch. You can see thick hair at her jaw line. If you are not familiar with trimming, ask someone to clean that out for you. Leaving it makes her head look deep, when it probably isn't. If your breeder isn't confident at doing head trims, then you can make arrangements with someone (a seasoned sheltie person) to do it at the show. If it's a weekend of showing, then your girl is ready to win every day. You will have to pay them, but believe me.........it makes all the difference, when a judge only has two minutes to look at your dog. Her head should appear "light".

Thanks for the tip. We're still really new to this. Every show we learn something new. We have met alot of very friendly and helpful sheltie people. I'm sure we were taught this but forgot.:o

Your puppy looks beautiful.

Congratulations on a job well done. Showing in conformation takes a lot of patience, but well worth it in the end. Keep us posted on how she does in the future!

She's a lovely girl.

Missjennygirl....can you explain about the throat latch? I looked at the picture and then went to my bible (Guide to Sheltie Grooming) and couldn't see what you saw in the picture. It looked like there was sufficient gap between the underjaw and neck to me. But maybe I misunderstood your comment?

Okay, I am going to try and explain it. Maybe if Tofu Pup reads this, she can add something. If you look at the profile picture at the corner of the mouth, go straight down. Now follow that line back. Ideally it should be parallel with the top skull. If it is trimmed back you can see the parallel lines. Ideally, you wouldn't want a wide open wedge ("<") from the nose to the topskull, and the nose to the throat. I hate to use my own dogs for examples, but on the Robbie profile picture or any of the Annie pictures, you can see what I mean. You don't want depth between the topskull and the throat. This denotes a one piece head,(good) instead of a apple (skull) and a hotdog (muzzle) two piece head (not so good).

BTW, UKC is the United Kennel Club, it is the second oldest registry of pure bred dogs in the United States. In Great Britain it is "The Kennel Club".

Thanks eveyone. Yes UKC is the United Kennel club. I have a special place in my heart for it as they allow spayed and neutered mixed breeds which they call AMBOR(american mixed breed obedience registry) in compete in performance events such as obedience and agilty. It was were I fisrt started showing in obedience with my mix. The obedience has some different exercises what make it a bit more challenaging than AKC. Justice needs only 1 more leg to get his Grand Obedience Championship, the highest obedience title they offer. We hope to get it in Jan.

re. head trimming...Missjenneygirl explained it pretty well, I'll see what I can add... The top and bottom lines of the skull should be clearly parallel to each other, but all that fuzz grows in and covers up the bottom line. If you ran your scissors straight back from the chin to the throat, you'd run into the bit of fuzzy fur that Missjenneygirl suggests come off. It'll show off her skull better.

She is a cutie! I love how she is leeeeeaning forward on the table (is there a cookie off-camera? :wink2:) Our old Tri girl LOVED to show, and has the big white-factoring too, so your Diva gets extra "awws" from me. Best of luck with her!
