Yesterday (12/10) it was three years ago I lost my precious little Fancee. She was the little girl I got from another rescue here, who had been really badly neglected by the rescue folks,. She was 13 years old and not doing so well. The rescue group guy told me Fancee may be 10 but possibly older (Got her old vet records and found out a lot, she was 13). Said she was lame and had issues with diahrrea. Because Fancee was a tiny little girl (he called her a toy sheltie (BIG red flag here)) and had been eating nothing but junky canned food and Teddy Grahams before she came to them. She needed to be fed only an 1/8 cup of food a day so she could lose weight. She weighed over 30 lbs. I took Fancee and immediately took her to the vets. She had giardia and apparently no one bothered to ever take her to a vet to be checked. She was being horribly underfed and was suffering hypoglycemia. She had congestive heart failure as well. She had been on heart medication but the previous rescue guy would not put her on it because it was expensive. Fancee was a mess. I changed her diet and started taking her for walks. The giardia was medficated snd cleared up in a week. Fancee walked on her back elbows because if her weight gain so I excercised and massaged her every day. Fancee started losing weight and what a charmer this little girl was. She loved people and anyone who came to the door was greeted by Fancee. The other dogs loved her. They guarded and protected her. All the collies wanted to be close to her. Fancee was such a sweetie. She loved to sniggle. It was Fancee who made me realize I needed to open a sanctuary for other puppers who were medically challenged and unwanted. I poured all my extra time into Fancee and boy did she respone She lost weight and was starting to keep up with the other guys during our walks. I totally adored this amazing little girl. When the time came for Fancee to leave us I was devastated. Her smile, adorable gentle little face was embedded in my heart. Fancee gave me hope and made me realize how precious these sweet shelties were. My rescue is now filled with little shelties who could not find a permenant home. Here they will remain.

My home is filled with all the angels Fancee has sent to be here. Fancee dear angel, this home and these precious souls are all here because of you. God love you dear girl

Every day St. Francis walks the fields near Rainbow Bridge. Fancee, I'm sure, is right at his heels.

What a beautiful, beautiful heartfelt story. It brought tears to my eyes. I am sure she is waiting for you and is so, so proud of you and what you do for all the little ones. God bless you and her, and all your little rescues.

Fancee's story made me cry too, Sheltiemom. She is indeed an angel, and so are you for keeping her memory alive with all the Shelties you've helped since she left you. What an amazing legacy.

Thank you all. My little Fancee was the closest thing to heaven I have ever been near. She was a kind loving soul. I could go on for hours about this amazing pupper. She had been so neglected and then tossed aside. I only had her for 8 very short months, but they were months that still bring such joy and sadness to my heart. How could anyone push this amazing girl aside. When Maizie came to me, she reminded me so much of Fancee...she could be Fancee's twin. Both tiny and adorable and HUGE people puppers. Everyday when I see little Maizie it is like I have my Fancee back. They say the Lord works in mystertious ways. With me being as sick as I am sometimes it is hard for me to even want to get out of bed...but remembering Fancee and seeing all these angels that are in my home now, remind me of what a fighter Fancee was, despite how sick she really was. She is the reason I keep going everyday

The Mrs is right ... our house is filled with Fancee's legacy. She was an amazing little girl in many ways. In spite of her condition, I never heard her whimper or complain (except when we tried to trim her nails, which were in bad shape) and she was always the first to meet and greet you.

Fancee has another legacy as well. I kind of like making up parodies of songs and so of course I had to make up one about Fancee. Since it was the holidays, it had a holiday theme ( "Fancee the Sheltie" - sing to the tune of "Frosty the Snowman" ). So now every one of our dogs has to have one and ... since I don't sing that well ... well, you get the picture. :)

Sheltiemom, Fancee's story made me cry but at the same time it was a happy story because of the great life you gave Fancee while she was with you. The work that you continue to do with rescues is what keeps Fancee's memory alive and she is wagging her furry little tail at you from over the Rainbow Bridge.

Me, too! You know the song by Madonna, "Santa baby?" We do:

"Layla Baby
You're my little precious girl dog
Never a hog
You're just a precious little thing
Layla Baby
So save a little lovin' for me."

Now, is that revolting or what!

Bless you for what you do! You gave her some wonderful years and your heart and soul. Fancee is indeed and will always be a part of your, as you well know - 3 years later, you still remember her and mark her passing.

Take care
Barb

I don't know if this is the right time to share this or not...
There is so much grieving and loss on our forum right now, that I remembered a sad but lovely story I'd read posted at the Clan Duncan website. It's lovely, and I cry every time I read it. It may ease your heart some. It is for every person who has ever truly loved a sheltie. It is titled "No Love Lost"

Granite: That was the most beautiful story I have ever read, though I cried through a lot of it. I lost my Fancy girl (sheltie) last April and still haven't recovered. The woman in the story, her way of thinking sounded like me, and her family too (maybe a lot of us here feel that way, I don't know). Thank you so much. Oh Sheltiemom, you do such wonderful things. I know your kids will be with you someday. Prayers for you and Fancee. By the way, my Priest says he believes dogs go to heaven. Hope that helps--I know it makes me feel better.

Granite thank you for that story. It was beautiful. I live alone, never married, and no kids. All I have are my two dogs and people think I'm 'crazy' for being the way I am with them - but they are my life, they put a smile on my face each morning! Aren't sheltie's wonderful!!!:smile2::yes::smile2:

Shelties ARE wonderful. I can't take any credit for the story; only for pointing the way TO the story. It was written by "DQ" of Clan Duncan Shelties. She is in the process of writing a book of stories about shelties. I plan to buy that book when I see it is available!

Sheltiemom I'm not trying to hijack your thread, only offering wonderful words from another sheltie owner who is far more eloquent than I.
