Hi there! :wink2:

My name is Jess and I live in WNY with my husband for almost 6 years! First time Sheltie owner but have had dogs all my life. My family loved huskies and we had one for 13 wonderful years before crossing the Rainbow Bridge.

Our household consisted of three kitties: One's a polydactyl, an Egyptian Mau/Buff, and a Tabby mix. We had to put our Egyptian Mau to sleep due to Feline Leukemia complications. Luckily, the other two were tested negative for the disease. It's been over six months before we decided to adopt Peyton, a three year old Blue Merle. We brought her home last week and she's been such a sweetheart! Still getting used to our cats (and vice versa) but I think she's adapting nicely.

Been looking at apts and seeing the typical restricted breeds. I saw this and had to do a double-take on many of the breeds.

Just curious, do you know why some of these breeds are on the list? I know the typical, like Akita, Mals, GSDs, etc.

I don't want to debate why they're on the list, just curious if you know why they'd be there....in general.

Restrictions or other terms:
Akita, Alaskan Malamute, Belgian Sheepdog, Belgian Tervuren, Black and Tan Coonhound, Borzoi, Bouvier Des Flanders, Bull Mastiff (all variations), Bull Terrier (including Miniature Bull Terrier), Chinese Shar-Pei, Chow-Chow, Doberman Pinscher, German Shepard, Great Dane, Irish Wolfhound, Kuvasz, Mastiff (all variations), Pit Bull, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Rottweiler, Scottish Deerhound, Staffordshire Bull Terrier (including American Staffordshire), and Weimaranier.

Not sure if anyone here feeds Natural Balance, but I do and I thought you would like to know they are merging with Del Monte which I think is a bad move for them and now I will have to find something else quick to feed my Westie because he's been on the L.I.D. Bison and Sweet potato due to issues with IBD, 2 HGE attacks and food allergies. I am crossing my fingers I can find something else with limited ingredients because I don't want his issues to become worse. Just thought I would give others who feed Natural Balance a heads up.

As you might recall, Katie was having side effects from the piroxicam she was on for probable bladder TCC. It took a bit of time, but her appetite has come back fully, she's scoffing down her treats, and poops are back to normal. She is her usual spunky, Diva-self again. Am keeping her off the piroxicam and tramadol for now and she's doing beautifully. We are going to the vet on Friday for a checkup. She's back to warning Laddie that he can't come up on HER bed (unless I pick him up and put him there - so he sits at the side of the bed and gives me "the look" and I'll pick him up and put him next to me). Thanks for all your prayers - so far the 16+ year old "empress" is doing just fine and we are all hoping it continues that way...

I named Beau, because well first of all the Shelter named him,"Bodacious" I thought that was just plain wrong. He was a lot of things Bodacious he was not and besides that was just asking for fights at the dog park. I gave him him the nick name 'Dog Boy" because I was watching a rerun of the Waltons one night. I finally decided on the name Beau because in french it means handsome, which of course he most definitely is and it also means a male escort for a female(that's me) So, I figured Beau it is, but, I still affectionately call him dog boy, the sweet one, the sweet babboo.

Hello! Oliver is now about 5 months old and FINALLY got with the potty training program! It has taken him a good 12 weeks to get potty trained. The issue we are having now is his excited peeing. I know a lot of people say that "he will grow out of it" but, if that is the case, maybe I just need to hear it a few more times! :wink2: My aunt's dog never "grew out of it", so I don't want this to be an ongoing issue as I am hoping to use Oliver for a therapy dog. He pees a few drops (sometimes 3 or 4, and sometimes 20) when he gets excited that someone new has come in the house, or that someone new is showing him affection. He LOVES people, which I am extremely grateful for! He does not do this excited peeing with treat/food excitement. Not sure what to do. I don't know if this is something he could control, or if it really is an age issue. Anyway, any suggestions on what to do about this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!

We have cats and they don't like him but he doesn't care about them much. We've taken him to local minor league baseball games for their "Bark in the Park" events and he's the best dog there.

Please say a prayer for Perry's best friend Sofie. She has been limping for two days last week than everything was looking back to normal but her mom took her to the vets anyway and thank God she did it. She has a slight rupture in her knee ligament and it could break anytime :( So she is on crate rest now for 10 day - if there will be some visible improvement it will probably heal in the conservative way, if not she will have to have an operation. In case of the operation (or spotaneus break) it would mean at least six month of rest and short on-leash walks. Her mom is feeling really low right now and me too  We had so many plans... Travelling, endurance race or just normal doggy activities. I'm worrying so much. I know there are worse things that could happen to our fur babies but I can't imagine how such a bundle of energy like Sofie would spend a half year of her life walking on a short leash. Praying for a speedy recovery :fl
