Do i have a monkey in sheltie fur?
Of course our Miss Saddie barks but when she gets excited she makes monkey noises? Is this a Sheltie trait?

What kind of monkey noises ?
 I'd only be concerned if she scratches her armpits at the same time?

That is a new one for me. I do call my Danny monkey boy sometimes though. I would love to hear the sounds. Can you get them on a video and post it here?

Bela "woo"s or goes "ahhhhh ahhhh ahhhh". She also snorts, sneezes, and (of course) barks. She has her loud demanding bark, a soft bark for when she's puzzled by or curious about something, and a medium bark for when she thinks something around the house needs investigation. She snorts to get attention on ascending volume levels that finally end up in sharp barking if you ignore her.
Not too bad for a puppy mill mama who didn't make a sound for seven months after she came to live with us! Shelties are MASTER communicators! As far as the "monkey" sounds go, my tiny little male Sheltie would make those kind of sounds on occasion.

Lexi is a big barker...Pyper pretty quiet for a sheltie. When they get really frustrated, like when it's time for our walk and I'm not getting ready quickly enough, they howl. Lexi starts it and Pyper joins in. It's so funny...especially to see their pointy little noses straight up in the air.

Wish I had a recorder so I could record her. She has made these sounds since she was a puppy!
