I'm sitting here with Callie on the floor chewing on a nylabone, and surrounded by a ton of toys. She loves things with squeakers, and I've been buying mostly the stuffingless ones which seem to work well.
She's not much of a one for balls -- surprisingly, since she herds everything else, and I'm wondering what your dog's favorite toy is so I can start looking that special Christmas toy. Think she's just a little spoiled

Beau is not really a toy dog, he'd much rather cuddle up with someone, anyone particularly his momma, but, he will also pick random strangers on a street

Two of Olive's favorite toys are a long stuffed snake w/squeakers, and a babble ball. The babble ball is ridiculous - makes all sorts of animal sounds and is amazingly durable. It's been dropped, rolled through pee and poo (before she was house-trained!), and thrown around by a crazed pup with the rips for months, and still looks brand-new when we wipe off the fuzz. It makes noise when it bumps into something or turns/tilts (no on/off switch). Even if your dog doesn't like ball toys, the babble ball might be a winner. The noise is the prize, more so than anything else.

The squeakers are supposed to be invincible, and so far so good. http://www.amazon.com/Kyjen-Invincib...tible+dog+toys |

I'd looked at some of the Kyjen toys. I think one of those is going on my list. As far as the babble ball, how annoying is it to humans? I'm tempted to buy one for my daughter's Sheltie so it can stay at their house....

Missy has a lot of stuffed animals, but her favorites (or at least the ones she pulls out of her toy box most often) are a low stuffing Kong teddy bear and this- http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...AvailInUS%2FNo
She also really likes tug toys. I bought one from Tugs of Fun (found it mentioned on this forum) and she brings it to me to tug all the time. Because of flyball, I was told to try to pick up most of her stuffed animals and encourage her to play with balls, so we've been doing that the past couple weeks. She likes tennis balls, but they're not her first choice in toys. For Christmas she's getting a new frisbee though (shhh.. don't tell her!) For dogs that like herding/retrieving soccer balls, I would recommend the Chuckit Kick Fetch http://www.amazon.com/Canine-Hardwar.../dp/B0084DRJKO. It has grooves in it so it's easy for dogs to pick up with their mouths. Missy loves it! And clearly she's very spoiled...

Usually if we're in the same room we'll pick it up and encourage Olive to play with other (quiet) toys. The ball isn't super-loud but it is loud enough you'll be able to hear it from a room or two away. It is nice for her to have when we're out of the house or busy in other rooms, definitely keeps her occupied. If you're looking for cheap, try an empty plastic 2-liter soda bottle (sans cap/label). Olive has had the same Fresca bottle for a few weeks and she loves that thing. Rips with it at least once a day.
