Default hello from louisiana

I grew up with first one, then 3 shelties. My parents were breeders (very limited). When I moved out I adopted one of the puppies. She lived for 15 years. After about 10 years, I purchased another puppy, who died this year. Six days ago I saw an add in the paper for a free sheltie puppy, no kids. I called and they said this dog was 18 months old and they had her for 6 months. The 1st owners had 5 children under 9, and the 2nd were having aggression issues with their grandchildren. I asked to meet the dog and when I got there, I asked a lot of questions, but they didn't ask me any. How can you just give a sheltie to a stranger? But they did. She had clearly just been groomed (her feet were perfect). Who does that when they are giving away the dog? It makes me suspicious. She also had a few fleas. They said she was purebred, but didn't get the papers from the 1st owners. They said the 1st owners gave her shots, but did not give me any paperwork. Her name is Rosie, which I have shortened to Rose because I have a cat named Roadie (rescued from a busy intersection at 6 weeks old). Rose is at the vet getting all her shots and spayed. I have 2 other cats (8 and 3). The 8 year old grew up with my last sheltie (Casey). Rose is crate trained only. I am working on house training and will start obedience classes in Jan. Rose is very sweet, but wants to chase the cats.

What a blessing you got her! Who knows what life she would have if not.
One of my sweetest shelties is Jack. I got him in 2006 from a woman on the West Bank of New Orleans. They listed him for free. He was 11 months old & gorgeous. The woman was a real flake & when I was trying to get to meet him to see if we were a match her husband called me & said she had been arrested & he was being sent overseas with the military. If I didn't take Jack he was going to turn him loose on base!! Needless to say I jumped on that & rescued him & never looked back. People can be nuts when it comes to animals & very little surprises me.

I don't know how to add pictures. She's very pretty but doesn't have the perfect ears Casey had. The lady said the previous owners shaved her, so her coat's thin, plus they shaved her to spay.

Poor thing. She doesn't know how to play. When I throw toys (never threw out Casey's), she just watches. We have a really good trainer here and they have dog socialization days. Maybe if she sees others chase balls, she'll learn it's fun. She doesn't seem to be mourning her previous owner. I went through a divorce with my 1st sheltie and she mourned my ex for a long time. I will post pix when I figure it out.

Bless you for adopting her. I'm sure her life will turn around now that she has a good home and will be loved. I, too, am very suspicious of this Sheltie's background, but it is what it is.

Best of luck with your new addition! Please share pics when you have a chance.
