Take your puppy to the asap. A puppy should be seen by a vet within 48 hours of purchase and yours is only 6 weeks old, so it is even more important.

You do not want to administer any vaccines on your own, especially if a vet has not told you your puppy is healthy. Let your vet do an exam and take care of any shots. You should also bring a poop sample, so the vet can test for parasites that are common in puppies.

Agreed. I took my puppy to the vet the day after I brought her home even though she was 10 weeks old. It was part of my contract for purchasing her. Get that puppy to the vet!

Another big reason that we breeders do not vaccinate at such a tender age is that the passive immunity that is passed from dam to offspring while it is nursing is still high enough to render the shot pretty much useless. If it were me I would have it vetted, wait a couple of weeks more and then have it given it's first round of shots. That way you will have dewormed if necessary and I suspect it will be and the pup's immune system will be ready to mount the necessary response.
Please do not succumb to saving the money and doing your own shots. Use the vet so that the vet will see if there is a developing problem in your baby, and will have the opportunity to guide you. We can't see this baby so if you have questions for the breeders in the group try to collect as much data as you can on what's happening or we are just taking a stab at trying to help. Good luck with your new arrival.

The breeders here are giving you great and experienced advice on food and vetting. I wouldn't wait to make a vet appt. I would go tomorrow. I would never do my own vaccines especially since you have no experience with them. I would take a look at their suggestions on food as well, Many of the breeders here have decades of experience.

Good luck I hope you have a long happy life with your puppy.

My vet offers a "4th" puppy shot at 20 wks. Mainly it is because he has run across breeders who have told new puppy owners they have done the 1 shot at 8 wks, but later it has been found that is was at 6 weeks. It bothers him a lot because of "bad" breeders. So he will do a "4th" puppy shot after discussing with the owner. He hates when he has a owner come in with a pup and they say the breeder said the pup is 8 or 9 weeks old and the pup is really 6 weeks. He does a lot of education

Ha, it's called Purebred Alternate Listing now, I'm showing my age?
Appreciate this info, after I saw this post while lurking this thread I filled out an application for Beignet since she is a completely unregistered/no papers craigslist puppy and got approved. So she has her PAL now, yey. Thanks a bunch.
