Default Dog Park Alerts!

I have seen two mentions of criminal malice at dog parks and thought I'd help spread the word (And hope it is a hoax.)

Nails have been found pressed into chunks of cheese at dog parks in and around Chicago, IL and in various locations in Massachusetts.

Some dog owners at an Augusta Maine dog park found antifreeze dumped in the public doggie water bowls.

Please be aware of your pets and be on the look out for these and other dangers at these public places.

That picture always circulate every few months. Not saying it's a hoax. The situations might very be real, but I've definitely seen that picture and read similar stories last year.

Whether or not it is true, it should still serve as a reminder to be vigilant at parks and public areas with your dog(s).

I'm a dolt!

This isn't as much of a hoax as it is mis-information. I took the jump when I should have been watching my handler for proper instruction.

No need to delete it. There have been crazy incidents of poison or sharp objects at dog parks. It is a good reminder to scan the park for anything suspicious before you unleash your dog in a dog park.

We have had incidences in Toronto of dogs being poisoned with hot dogs laced with chemicals, etc. It is always a good idea to be aware of what is around. Unfortunately there are sick people out there who will do this.

In a Detroit suburb, Canton, MI, someone has been putting nails, needles, etc into food & hiding for dogs to eat. This was reported in our local news in the last month or so. The scary part is, the person has hidden some of the food under leaves & snow, where a dog would probably smell it, but the owner not see it. One person's 2 dogs needed surgery. Scary

here's a link to the local paper's article, (apologies in advance if it doesn't work after a month or so, this paper freq. removes a lot of their older articles from their website).

Just wanted to add, they ran another story last week, they found more of the contaminated 'treats' in the same neighborhood.

People can be truly horrible sometimes.

The thing that gets me about the problem going on here (I'm in the Detroit burbs, too) is that meat/fish is being laced along with candy. The dogs will go for the meat/fish and maybe the candy, but people are at serious risk here, too, with little kids and their candy-wanting ways. It's scary.

Seriously hope they catch the **** (censored myself) responsible, and soon, before anyone else gets hurt.

Oh goodness, this makes me glad only community dogs are allowed at our park and it's in the back corner of the property bordered by the metro line (so several lines of 8' chain link with barb wire) and a storage facility (8' chain link and masonry wall)

holy moly celloyogi, I didn't know about the candy part! this is even worse than it originally was.

greenpony, this isn't at a dog-park, it's just on the street where anyone can walk by. The article also pointed out that wild animals are endangered by the tainted treats. What sort of sicko does this junk? I hope they're caught too.
