Default Sometimes, I don’t think she is a sheltie

Now I know not all shelties bark, but they have a tendency to be reactive to sound. Olive notifies us if anyone is within a couple dozen yards of our unit- we’ve been working on the ‘quiet’ command. But today is the sort of day where I wonder if she’s a sheltie at all.

The fire alarms in the building and the unit went off for the first time since we moved in. Of DH, Olive, and I, Olive was probably the calmest. While I grabbed my things to head out to wait it out, she calmly followed me around and politely sat for her leash. The only problem was when the alarm echoed in the breezeway, it hurt her ears (it was certainly hurting mine) so she pulled to the gate to get away from it, a neighbor's GSP was acting up far more. Not a peep out her the entire time and she is the queen of pitiful whines (you should hear her when I get back from class). The fire department never did show up, so I’m assuming it was related to the garage construction or the water main break (yes, today has been awesome).

Now it’s all settled, she’s back on the couch where she belongs, staring down the bag of Reese’s well out of her reach.

Sounds like Justice. I lived in an apartment with him. He never barked. He never reacted to fire alarms or other such noises. He is just a steady dog.

However, since I got big mouth 1 and big mouth 2 and mini mouth 3 aka Ember, Diva and Birch, Justice has found his vocie and uses it on occasion and quite alot now when he is really happy and excited.

He is still quite queit when he is by himself, however

Oh Sca has gotten real bossy when he is excited or thinking fooooood should on the way. Otherwise he is quiet. Spitfire on the other hand and he grumbles.

My boy had good hearing, but neither severe thunderstorms nor the vacuum cleaner bothered him at all.

Every day, my boy did some Joy Barking, but I wasn't about to be strict about that.

Duff isn't too bad. He sometimes barks at night if he hears critters prowling around outside. He does bark if people knock on the door which is good. I kind of tune him out and wait to see if the German Shepherds are going to bark. If they do, I pay attention.

I'm lucky I have no neighbors.
