Hello! We are Sheltie lovers from MN, we own two females (litter mates). One of them just whelped her first litter in early Oct. During her pregnancy, she developed very light sable, coarse outer hair on her backside, almost as if it was chemically treated, unlike her normal fur. It's been 3 months since birth and I believe she is "blowing" and we are ALL covered in fur! She looks funny, like sporting a mohalk, that coarse fur is still there. When we try to groom her she has thick scabby things on her back under it and sometimes bleeds when it comes out. I assumed it must be hormones, but am wondering about this back condition. Has anyone else ever experienced this? She is on excellent feed - Life's Abundance and doesn't over eat, is otherwise in good shape. She will be 2 in May. Thanks!

The total loss of hair is normal, the scabby, bleeding bit is not.
BTW, she had a litter at 16 months old!?

Comb her out carefully, so as not to cause her pain. Then bath her in warm water with a mild shampoo. That will release the rest of the old coat that needs to come out, and clean away any bacteria on her skin.
But, OF COURSE I would speak to your breeder/mentor, and maybe have them look at her.
