New owner

I recently adopted a small dog from the shelter. She looks like a sheltie but is very small..about 8-10 lbs. she is the most loving dog I have ever seen! I have totally fallen in love with her! However she is very shy and timid. I think she might have been abused. We have really bonded but I don't know anything about the breed. Are the just timid dogs? I just want to learn about her. Any help?
