Hey all!
So I've recently noticed that now and then I see Indie's eyes tear up a little bit. Now I'm pretty sure I've pinpointed it to when he's fed. Currently he's on Purina Pro Plan Puppy. I'm thinking it must have to do with the food... Has anyone else had issues like this? Anyways, we're past the half way point of the bag, so I'm considering switching to a better, more wholesome, holistic sort of food. Any suggestions? He's just 5 months now. I was thinking Arcana, I read some analyses on it, and it seems a lot better. Do you think a more holistic food will help? Also I noticed this morning he had a little eye gunk buildup on his one eye... I just wiped it off, and I'm going to keep an eye on it (I'm so so paranoid, but I'm not made of money so I don't want to always take him to the vet if it's nothing lol). I know my one cat back home with my parents would get a little eye cold every year around this time, and it would just clear up on it's own. I would assume dogs can get little colds just like us humans that are nothing to really worry about? He's acting totally fine otherwise. ANYWAYS, sorry for the novel ladies and gentlemen, any help is appreciated!

I would switch to a food without corn for sure. You may want to go with something like Blue Buffalo, Acana or Orijen. Good luch!

I would start with the food and definitely get him on a better brand. Any of the holistics is a good choice. You might try a grain-free or limited ingredient food. Several manufacturers make them. Go, Now, Wellness and Eagle Pac Holistic are a few. I'm not familiar with Arcana but I know many people really like that one as well.
If the food doesn't solve the problem, check with your vet and see if he might have an environmental allergy to something like grass or pollen.

I use Blue Buffalo Wilderness Puppy with Angus, and my adults are on Blue Buffalo Wilderness Salmon......they have done very well on it. I do have one chihuahua that had some food allergies and she has thrived on it and has had no problems.
I have heard good about Orijen, Arcana as well....just haven't used them!

For sure you can be on better food as has already been suggested.
But I'm not 100% convinced that the eye gunk you are dealing is related to food allergies. Most food allergies manifest in skin or stomach conditions. Eye issues might be an infection or environmental allergies. In which case your might want either anti-biotics or an eye wash.

I know for a fact now that his eyes are tearing up when he eats that food... It's nothing terrible, but i will definitely be shopping for a new food asap so i can start integrating it into his diet. If that doesn't work then vet it will be! I'm certain it's the food, because it only happens when he eats. As for his little eye funk in the left eye, I've been doing hot compresses on it, looks fine but if it doesn't clear up, we'll be heading to the vet.sigh.. My little guy has the worst luck! Think he got that from me haha

Bought him some Acana Grain Free food today. We'll see how he does at the end of the transitioning :)
