Default Wow, Shelby never did this before

Shelby is not a very affectionate sheltie. She is always with us but never on us. She never ever cuddles nor sits on the sofa with us. She likes to be held and petted but you have to go to her. She is content laying at our feet and especially on the ottoman.

Well the other evening we were sitting on the sofa watching tv (DH was sleeping) with my feet propped up on the ottoman. Shelby proceeded to walk along my legs and curled up on the pillow next to me!! She stayed there for at least a half hour. It made me so happy that she did this. Maybe she will become more affectionate as she gets older.

Ember was extremely standoffish as a puppy and young dog. I don't know when or where but she decided that it was ok to lay next to me- on the furniture and the bed. Now she sleeps on my legs every night as I watch TV or read.

I used to have be happy with that and not touch her or she would be gone. Now I can even pet her.nly took 7 yrs.

My experience with the girls is that they tend to be more standoffish and reserved, but when they decide you're deserving of their affection it's truly earned and a special thing.

All of mine past and present except for Lacey (who has always been Velcro Dog and the exception to the rule) have taken a long time to accept a cuddle. Even now, at ages 6 and 7, it doesn't always last, so we consider cuddles a rare and precious thing and savor them!

Heaven forbid though that you decide to pat or cuddle someone else. This is not allowed! Then they are all over you and the ones you don't have enough hands for are giving you the stink eye.

Sca will go on the back of the couch to hide (that is his safe spot) but otherwise when you pet him he gets all excited and has to move. Of course if you are petting Spitfire he will come see you for some petting.

Spitfire on the other hand LOVES to be petted however being insane he can only hold still for so long before he has to do something, if he is tired enough though he will be the super snuggler.

We have noticed the same thing with Sally, she has become much more affecionate as she has gotten older. It's great. She will climb up beside me and lay on my lap so we can wrestle and I can rub her belly. I love it.
