Default Throwing up Yellow

We have a male Sheltie about 6 years old. He is active and playful. A few months ago he started throwing up his food so we did the chicken and rice for a week and it settled and he was find. About a week ago in the middle of the night he throws up yellow liquid. He eats twice a day and drinks water throughout the day. Outside of the yellow stuff he is energetic and playful and holding food and water down. He continues at random times to throw up this yellow liquid. Any ideas? We had a female sheltie that died of liver disease and my husband is at a loss. Thanks for any advice or words of wisdom!

We've had several threads about this in the past, but I can't recall how long ago. It's fairly common, and generally nothing to worry about as long as it's just yellow bile.

Generally, what it means is that your pup's tummy is empty (notice it always happens in the middle of the night.) Mine used to do it around 5 a.m., shortly before breakfast. Try giving him a snack before bedtime...a bit of kibble or a biscuit or two...and see if that helps. Usually, it does.

Let us know what happens!

Ann's right. That should probably do the trick. I'm not able to give much advice unfortunately, but I hope your pup gets better soon. Let us know if that helped.

And I'm sorry to hear about your other Sheltie. Don't worry too much. As long as he's fairly active, then he must not feel all too crummy
