Default Great AKC Rally Weekend For Edan & CJ

We spent the weekend at our local Sheltie club's annual Sheltie Specialty show. Two rounds of Rally were offered over the course of the weekend. Edan was entered in Advanced and needed one more leg to finish the RA. CJ was entered in Novice, her first trial of any type in AKC.

Edan successfully earned his RA
on Saturday with a 97. We lost those three points on the last station when Edan ran ahead of me instead of stopping with me for the Halt-Stand-Walk Around Dog (sign 105). I moved him up into Excellent for Sunday and earned our first RE leg with an 87. All lost points were handler error; Messed up one of the stations and only did half the exercise then later in the course clapped to get him back to me when he went to check out a fluff on the side of the ring. That natural instinct is going to make Excellent level harder for me than Edan. )

CJ successfully earned two legs toward her RN with a 72 and 74 respectively. To describe all the issues she and I had would take a long time. The scores were a combination of handler error because I was worrying about CJ not paying attention and CJ just not paying attention. Regardless, a Q is a Q and I'll take it. We've got a lot of time between now and when another AKC rally trial is offered in the area to try to improve the performance.

I'm really proud of both dogs, now if I can just get them a better handler. I don't usually mess up this badly with Rally stations. My brain must have really been elsewhere.

Congrats

a Q is a Q- if the judge didn't think it was good enough, then you wouldn't have gotten the points.

I'm betting that you were a little distracted- maybe even working at the show...
sometimes, you need to just work with the dog and ignore everything/everyone else.

at our last ob/rally trial, I didn't even enter the brown dogs in the same classes. I have found that to be a little too stressful so we backed off a little...

Congratulations! I agree -- Q is a Q! There are a couple of runs I've done with Beckon that I was grateful for those 72s!

Congratulations! I agree with the others--take those Qs and be proud of them! There's plenty of time to focus on the things you need to work on, enjoy the moment :)
