Default 8 week old pup loves to jump, too high?

Oliver is 8 weeks old and is doing well with us so far. He is a typical playful puppy with a lot of energy! He loves to jump! We have about a 6" drop from our back porch to the yard that he particularly loves to run and jump from. I eventually want to do agility, just for fun, but I know you are not supposed to start jumping them until their growth plates have closed, many months from now for Oliver. Is the jumping off the porch something to worry about with his development? I do not want him to do any permanent damage, especially at such a young age. I would appreciate your thoughts! Thanks!

I can't comment on whether or not your pup should be jumping, but I can tell you that Olive was doing similar things at that age, unlike any other dog I've had. She would get the zoomies in the kitchen and leap over her bed, too. She figured out how to jump on kitchen chairs at about 6 months, and by 10 months was on the kitchen table. The kitchen counter followed rather quickly... I will be interested to see what information you get from the forum about what is 'age appropriate jumping'.

Six inches is nothing; most stair risers are higher than that. I wouldn't worry about it at all. I wouldn't put him up on a bed, or anything like that, and make him jump off, which is something they'll do if they think there's no other way to get down.

Shelby loves to jump too. She was doing similiar things at that age. Now she is almlost three and I swear she can jump almost 4 feet straight up. She jumps right of the deck which is about 4 feet high. She is a nut when she gets the zoomies.

As for age I don't know. DH built a jump for her in our basement and we bought padding so it is softer for her.
