Default Serious Threat to Canine Health!!

If you live in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana or Oklahoma, there's a new threat to your dogs' health: Chagas Disease. It's spread by "kissing bugs" that can carry a deadly parasite that attacks smooth muscle in the heart. These bugs pose a threat to human AND dog life. No cure and no vaccine. They said for now it is only mainly in central and south Texas. Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Lousiana people need to be aware also!

If you google "chagas disease tamu" there is quite a bit of information out there provided to Texas A&M Veterinary Medicine.

The most at-risk dogs:
Sport-type and working dogs
Young dogs
Puppies from diseased mothers
Kennel environments
Dogs that sleep outdoors

I don't really know what kissing bugs are, so I suppose California is safe! ? !

Sigh...the last thing we need is another serious health threat to our dogs! Not good news. And what starts in just a few states will spread I am sure. I can remember the days when all our dogs got was a rabies shot...before heartworm, before Lyme and all the other tick borne diseases, etc.
