Now it worked. That seems indeed too short of hair for a sheltie. I hope you don't take him back but rather give him a great loving home with you. He looks like he is cute and needs you. Since collies can be smooth coated, we will call him one of our rare smooth coated shelties and we would love it if you would stick around.

The link doesn't work for me either.

Sheltie puppies do come with short coats, and the breeder is right that it can take until they are 2 years old to get a full coat. The bitch would have had a short coat because she just gave birth. Blowing coat after whelping isn't that unusual so your puppies mother isn't a good indicator of what the coat will look like. That said, it isn't unusual for a pedigree sheltie from a great breeder to throw up a shorter coat.

Here are pics of my male at 16 weeks and then at 2yrs.

As for the fleas and ticks. I'd be taking him to a vet to get some treatment.

He's a handsome puppy either way. If I had to guess I'd say maybe there's a little terrier in him. He does have marking that say sheltie though. As long as your happy with him that's all that matters. All dogs need a good home.

Okay, I can see the pics now. He does appear to have a flat coat. Even tho sheltie puppies have a short coat it is usually fuzzy. But I have known a couple of 100% shelties that did look like him and their coats grew quite short so you never know.

One thing I would question is his nose - it looks quite square, like a Jack Russel - although face front shots are always hard to tell. Can you do a side on?

Caro, in OP's pictures he doesn't even have fuzz. Deska at least had fuzz, especially behind his ears.

I was trying to think what his nose reminded me of - and you hit it with Jack Russell, also it's hard to tell how long the legs are from this picture. It looks like his body is a bit on the solid side for a sheltie, but again that could just be the way he's sitting.

Does he have an AKC registration? I agree, he just doesn't have a sheltie head and the coat is short. A sheltie pup will be like peach fuzz until the coat grows, but that coat is more typical of a short haired dog.

If he is registered, then he would be pure, just not typical. No matter what though, he will give you lots of love. He doesn't know he doesn't look like a typical sheltie!

Hi sierraJordon, welcome to you and your new baby. He sure has a cute face, I agree with the others, in that I think I am looking at at least part Terrier, so we will just consider him a "Sheltie wanna-be" and welcome him with open arms. Good luck with your boy, look forward to seeing more pictures as he grows and learns. :fl

This composite photo shows Dickens at three months and just over one year.

Impossible to have a shorter-haired Sheltie at the outset, I'd say, but his parents were both AKC-registered; neither had especially long coats, but they were both very beautiful. The second photo shows Dickens at around 20 months; his coat there is probably as long as it's going to get.

He was certainly an ugly duckling at the outset, but now I continually receive compliments about my "beautiful Collie."

Okay, I'm going to chime in as my Honey has a short coat and is pure sheltie (met parents, akc registered, pedigree in hand) She was still a fuzzy puppy. She just doesn't have guard hair or a long coat. Her hair always feels soft like puppy hair even now when she's 10.

these are her at 8 weeks:

her at 10 weeks (and a little wet from running in grass)

I have to agree with others, yours looks like a sheltie mix. Do you have a pedigree listing her parents? I'd check into that.
