The freeze out by the cats is over! All interactions have been positive and range from casual indifference to mild tolerance of play. She is trying to engage them in play but they are a little too reserved for this lol.
The youngest (7 years) has always been part dog because she was raised from 8 weeks old in the middle of 4 large dogs. Emilie actually stood up and put paws on her after inviting Athena to play and Emilie did not get whacked or hissed at. Yay! Always happy for happy news! Thanks for your support in my letting them get to know each other at their own pace. P. s. the cats, cat boxes, cat food and safe haven are all in a dog free zone. They have many outlets to avoid her if needed/wanted. There is just a comparative lack of undivided attention by me

Oh, what good news! I know what you mean by the lack of individual attention. Sometimes our little kitty will put her paw down hard and insist on sitting on my lap, no matter what, and that dog can just fend for himself for a while! She also asserts herself by lying on the dog's bed right in the middle. I've seen him lying next to his bed with her in the middle of it, and it's pretty comical. Janet

Well the cats have exclusive access to the bg bed so they are all waiting when I call night-night.
