This is a Facebook post from a friend of mine, who has a little dog named Alexander. I'm not sure what he is -- something Yorky looking -- but it scared me when I read it on Facebook. I know I've caught Callie chewing on a squeaker that she's gotten out of a toy. I'm not going to take all squeaky toys away from her -- she loves them too much -- but I'll be more careful about watching for signs that she's been able to make a hole and might be able to get the squeaker out.
"What the docs found was a perforation and subsequent peritonitis and a toy squeaker (!) that Alexander had swallowed in OCTOBER 2011. At the time I immediately gave him peroxide to bring it back up, but when nothing came back we assumed he hadn't really swallowed it, just that we couldn't find it. That squeaker has been lingering in his stomach for 14 MONTHS, and only recently moved into his intestines/colon. He is now on 3 antibiotics to deal with the peritonitis, but is expected to make a full recovery, maybe coming home Wednesday. DOG LOVERS: Let this be a lesson to all of us! Removed the @#$% squeakers from toys before you give them to your beloved doggy!" |

I am so sorry for that poor dog. I will never swallow a squeaky. Troops, do not swallow your squeakies!
I did not know there was a General Dog. He must be the Dog Surgeon General. Colonel Underpants

My mother bought toys with GIANT squeakers, because her Border Collie surgically removes all squeakers. These are too big for her to swallow, and she actually hasn't tried to remove them yet.
