I take exception to people being guilted into feeling that they are bad caretakers if they don't feed raw and the fear mongering that goes along with it.
Perhaps reading better might help... I said one needs to feed their animal real food... whether that's raw or homecooked it doesn't matter. But you can't expect to eat a bag of cereal everyday and remain healthy can you? Also, I'm guessing you're older... it's important to remember how many more chemicals have been added to foods than before. The dog food you're feeding when you had dogs live longer, isn't the same crap today. think how sad it is that it's insulting someone dare suggest feeding real food to an animal LOL Not RAW food, It doesn't have to be raw. It just needs to be fresh and not full of chemicals that can keep meat/veggies good for years. you think a life of preservatives like that is good on the body? Really? I even said 1-2 meals a week of FRESH food. Not ALL kibble. Reading comprehension is a good skill to have :)

Adding a smiley face doesn't make being insulting ok, no need to be an ***.

Militant raw feeders tend to draw this false choice between raw feeding or having dogs so ill they can't function. When that is obviously not the case for most dogs.

If all your dogs can eat is meat without ending up at the vet, please alter it, we don't want it in the gene pool. We want hearty, healthy dogs that can eat anything and be fine (and no, I don't want to hear some extreme definition of "fine" that only raw fed dogs can meet).

I agree! Kibble is not the best of the best, but 99% of dogs have been eating it for years with no health issues.

That's not to say that raw is bad....in the same way that kibble/wet food is not bad either. Raw has definite advantages.

The dogs that we feed today are not the same as their ancestors 1,000 years ago. They have evolved.

I really would like this forum to get off preaching ad naseum on one food or another. No issue if you want to say....have your considered: grain-free, limited, raw, chicken-free, etc. but to continuously spread your agenda......I think we have raw food forum for that already. Just saying.....

Please remember to keep posts on-topic and civil (and if you see posts that aren't, please report them to the mods).

We are all entitled to our opinions about what to feed our dogs. However, personal attacks and snarkiness are not appropriate.

You not only want to look for a low protein diet but also low phosphorous.

The group I found most helpful when my Gypsy had Kidney Disease was K9kidneys on yahoo. They want you to fill out some forms and post some test results before approved to join but it is well worth it to take the time to do. They have gathered all the Kidney info from the experts and have some nutritionists with the group that will offer advice according to your tests results. It's an amazing group and I learned so much there.

Good luck!

Thank you for sharing! Although my girl is currently stable I want to stay abreast of all the latest developments so I can make informed decisions about Piper's health.
