OK...not sure WHAT is going on this last week where I live but "2" stories have been in the news; will be brief with details cause I will cry all over again but then I witnessed something today!!
In the past week...there was a Chihuahua that was left for dead by the owner after he placed it in a dumpster last Monday. The dog appeared to have puncture wounds which they determined was from another animal. So the owner just throws him in the dumpster!!! On Wednesday, someone heard the poor baby crying in the dumpster (who had been in there SINCE Monday), got it out, took it to shelter. They are taking care of it, nursing him back to health and in the meantime put out a news report in search of the owner with a picture of the dog...LOOKING for the owner. BELIEVE IT OR NOT...the owner (who did this to his dog) went to the shelter to "claim" his dog!!!! Instead he was arrested!! The little fella will be adopted out when he is healed to a family that will treat him well and love him. THEN...within this past week....some whack job (older man, in his 20's) was MAD at his mother...so he grabbed a knife and grabbed the dog and stabbed the dog repeatedly, killing the dog. When the police arrived the guy put the knife to his own throat and asked them to kill him (according to the report)....instead, they tazzed him and wrestled him down. I personally would have voted for option and request number 1 !!!!! OK...then TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been feverish, sick off and on since the end of August (grand-kids and I keep passing it back and forth I guess)...so I was dragging myself out to go to the store for much needed food, advil, zertex, etc... As I was heading out of the neighborhood, I noticed a dog (about the size of a Sheltie) that must have crossed the street to the neighbors house because I noticed the neighbor motioning the dog to go back to owner who was standing at the street. The punkish looking white male with no shirt on and dreadlocks down his neck reached out and snatched the dog up BY THE SKIN and put the dog in a tight hold and started PUNCHING the dog in the side, the butt, wherever his punches landed!!!!! I was HORRIFIED!!!!!!!! I STOPPED my car and started screaming at him to STOP punching the dog NOW!!! He had a few choice words for me and what I could do to myself and to mind my own &%#*ing business. I told him it was NOW my business and I was calling the police. I drove back back his house (which he and his gal was outside and saw me) so I could get the house address. I called the police 2 times (got the run around a bit), then called animal control..made my complaint....I talked with a family member that works dispatch and they said I should have been given more attention and a police officer would go out with the animal control to check on the dog. So they called their supervisor for me AGAIN to make sure complaint was solid!! I have cried over this and have been so angry! I have had a temperature of 101 and it went up to 105 when I saw that poor baby being punched over and over. I will probably never know what the result of the call is but my family member gave them my number and said they could call me. I am sure the neighbor will forever remember me, my car and my protest..which is fine with me!!! I understand if a loving person can not handle a pet and needs to re home out of love for the animal and what's best for them....but I can NEVER understand laying an angry hand on a pet. Thanks for letting me vent!

I understand your anger & frustration. People never cease to amaze me with their ignorance & cruelty. I only wish we could punish them by doing to them what they have done. But that would be deemed "cruel & inhumane". Never mind that that's what they did to some poor animal, doing it to a person is not allowed. Until we pass laws that make animals more than property we will see things like this. I hope enough people get fired up enough & start calling their local, state & federal representatives to take action. Each one, save one should be words to live by. Thanks for doing what you could to help. You took a great risk & at least those people now know someone is watching.

All that I can say there are some really crazy people out there. Some people don't deserve pets. Why don't they test the new owners for anger management? They test the dogs. Its a shame and the pets are the victims.

Bless your heart, being sick just escalates the emotions in cases like these. Your compassion is admirable -- but please, take care of yourself. There are some crazy people out there!

Some people are jerks
. Thank you for doing the right thing, inconvenient as it was. You stood up to a bully & we need more to do that, I think society would benefit a lot from more direct, public, fearless peer pressure.
