Default another UTI???

so a couple months ago, Gizmo had a uti. he was treated with 3 weeks worth of antibiotics, and has done great since then, no accidents since finishing the protocol. well he just peed on our couch again! the ONLY time he has ever done that was when he had the UTI before. could he have another one already??? if he does should we be concerned about how fast it happened again?

Yes, he could definitely have another one. When my girl had them, she had several back to back. It turns out it hadn't 100% cleared up the first time and required a different kind of antibiotics.

I can't remember if you had this done before, but you may want to do the urine culture so you can determine exactly what bacteria is causing the problem.

i dont think they did a culture to check what type of bacteria it is. they just tested to see if he had a uti. are they 2 different tests? i know they had us to 9 days of antibiotics but that wasnt enough. so i called and they gave me 2 more weeks of antibiotics. after that he stopped having problems.

Yes they are different tests. A urinalysis tests to see if bacteria is present, and a culture will tell you what kind. Certain bacteria respond better to certain antibiotics.

Only too familiar with this now! Asta's UTI may have become a kidney infection. The first round of one antibiotic helped but symptoms came right back after the 10 days were up. First culture was negative due to very dilute urine. Second culture finally came back positive for E. coli, a very common bacteria. She will now be on Baytril for one month total to make darn sure it's cleared up.

So your boy may be on a longer course this time, but it really is best to get a urine culture. It does cost more than just the urinalysis.

Good luck!
