Default on the trail very odd behavior

Finnegan has recently started running around the house with his nose to the ground at a frantic pace! He actually wears himself out and it is almost like he is on the trail of something! We have only been in this house for about 2 months but he started this about two weeks ago. I cannot figure out where this strange behavior came from - the only other thing is he just had his lepto and bordetella/paraflu vaccine. Help would be appreciated!

Interesting! Does he have a good nose to smell out treats or does he do the same behavior on walks?

Could you possibly have animal visitors in your walls or other? The reason I ask is that the beagle I had as a kid started doing that at one point in my parents home... a week later, we saw a mouse in our kitchen! We ended up catching it and finding a couple more before blocking the hole where they were coming in from. After that, our beagle stopped the behavior.

Thanks for the reply! No he does not do that on walks. We have all tile floors over concrete so nothing there and haven't seen anything running around the house!!!!

That's what I thought too. Hollie had acted wierd for a bit and I didn't know why until I came home one day and found a mouse in the kitchen. We had a family of 7 in our attic. I knew I heard them at night but DH told me it was just the Christmas lights hitting the house in the wind and to stop waking him up.

Hollie didn't even try to catch it. She just sniffed it and pushed it around with her nose. She didn't even care that he was sitting in her food bowl.

I'm inclined myself to think it's probably a mouse, and he's picking up and following its scent from where it moved about.

Some say that dogs can detect the presence of ghosts. Hopefully it's nothing more than a mouse!
