Years ago, my (recently deceased ) sheltie, Riley, had this issue. The issue was mainly on his back and seemed to worsen after having been groomed. We ended up switching groomers and the issue cleared up on its own. I assume it was either a product or technique used at this groomer. You could try switching up the grooming routine to see if that helps. Good luck.

I got his med's balanced finally and his coat almost back in shape.

Up date on this, and yes, I did start a new thread. His skin funk is back agai and worse than ever. Going to the vet next.
