Husband was ill the day the breeder said that Blaze was ready for his new home, so I went to pick Blaze up alone. Husband was under a light blue blanket when we got home and welcomed little Blaze. Blaze investigated that blanket even as he bonded with husband. (It seems that I still have pictures on my computer of my husband holding Blaze on the light blue blanket.) Blaze even made a soft "den" in the folds of the blanket at times. Couldn't even see him for the blanket.

Well those early days were "forgotten" as Blaze grew--but seemingly not by Blaze. And when husband passed in September, the blanket was washed and put away without much thought.

Then last night I just happened to get that particular blanket out. Oh my gosh. Blaze was nothing but tail wags as he again investigated the blanket. Then he curled up in it and went to sleep for the night.

Now the blanket had been washed and put away for some time so it couldn't be the scent. It had to be the memories.

Oh that is so sweet. I hope you plan on letting him keep the blanket.

shelties are smart, they know lots more than most give them credit for. I think that is true for most animals, they understand and clue in far more than their humans ever realize.

Good for you Blaze, rest easy on your blankie:winkgrin:

That's so sweet and touching. I'm often surprised by what the dogs seem to remember... so much more than I'd give them credit for!

Shelties never forget the people they have loved...I have seen this confirmed more times than I can count. Blaze will always cherish that blanket as a link to his Dad...very precious.
