Olive tends to wake herself up. If it gets too bad (she's shaking more than usual) then I might wake her up but usually I let her play them out.

Sammy the pup hasn't had a nightmare yet that I'm aware of. But our Lab/Setter, who died last summer, used to have them. I knew they were nightmares because she would shake and growl in her sleep, and I never once heard her growl in real life. Usually it would be over very quickly, but if it went on I would just say, "Everything's OK, Lulu", and that seemed to calm her. Janet

I always touch him with my hand when he seems to get uncomfortable. He wakes up slightly and then can sleep again calmly. But I love when he has good dreams - sometimes he wags his tail sleeping. That's too cute

I just lay my hand lightly on them too. Usually they don't wake up but it does seem to calm them down.

No real nightmares to report but I love watching them when they are sleeping and dreaming and the paws are moving and the tails are wagging!

My little Terror, Gracie has had a few nightmares, but mostly she runs, grunts, and barks in her sleep, with her little stumpy docked tail wagging so fast it's a blur. During a bad dream, she'll yelp little staccato barks and moans. My dogs sleep in crates in our master bedroom, so I usually whisper over to her, Gracie! It's OK. Good girl. And she'll calm down. Bela usually looks over at her all disgusted.

I just touch my girls lightly and say everything is OK. It wakes them a little, but doesn't startle them.

Annie Laurie had a nightmare last night. I just called her name softly, and she calmed right down.
