So, I've had Molly (my 8 year old blue girl) and her son Luke (4 year old blue boy) both since birth. They haven't been my only dogs (they've lived with up to 4 other Shelties at once), and have had a smattering of contact with other Shelties.
But we might be (if all goes well) adding a 3 1/2 year old smooth collie girl to our family. Since she and Luke are of around the same age, I'm expecting them to play (eventually. Luke tries to play with everything.) For background: Luke is my ADHD Sheltie. Just under 16", hyper hyper hyper, muscled, in shape and incredibly smart. Molly is my fatty (like her daddy). She's a bit overweight (also has cysts on her side and stomach), but very laid back & lazy. She'll chase a ball, but only so she can get to it before Luke. If he's not after it, neigther is she. Bella (the collie girl) is a cuddler & likes to play (a good combination for Luke!) So, my questions: how do smooth collies shed? Do they shed the same as Shelties & rough collies? And stories & sage wisdom please! (And a link to my hopefully future girl: http://edenrockofmich.com/index_files/Page1278.htm )

Smooths shed like most short haired dogs, all the time with more in spring (shedding the winter coat). Think of it this way - a dog that grows its hair 1/2 an inch before it falls out is going to drop hair more often than a dog that grows it 7inches before it drops out. At least it won't form tumble weeds tho!
Collies of both types are popular in my neighbourhood. I've been told by the Smooth owners that they are more active than the Roughs because they were used to drive the flocks to market while the Roughs were used to mind the flocks.
