Urgent volunteers needed
Best Friends Animal Society needs volunteers to asist in transportation from NY to rescue groups in surrounding areas and states because of Hurricane Sandy. The dogs are in kill shelters and need to get into rescue asap.

Please see my post under Rescue Chat. It is CRITICAL that these shelters & rescues keep detailed records of what pets they get & from where. After Katrina so many well intentioned rescuers took pets but then many were never returned to owners due to lack of records. There are several Katrina pet related websites where owners are still searching for the animals they were forced to leave behind. The shelters & evacuations in Katrina wouldn't allow pets. It did seem for Sandy that there were more options for pet owners having to leave their homes or be rescued. I am grateful that people are willing to help the animals but I just have seen the heartbreak of owners who couldn't find their pets after the storm.
