Default Nose work classes

Well, there is no category for it here, but it has been fastest venue that developing in this neck of woods. Possibly because people have lots of reactive dogs, retired dogs or just are not that active themselves but nose work is growing at amazing rate.
And of course, for those that don't have it locally
Denise Fenzi and Margaret Simek will be teaching it over the winter, just something one can do in their own living room when it snowy and nasty outside

I started hiding container with food around the house and ask "search". We did food on the floor, in boxes, and now on the table/sofa levels. My friend done basics of the teaching so I have started on my own. Both boys are doing well and air scenting. I can see why this venue is spreading like a wildfire.

the dog store where we go to get Beau's food has these games available. Beau is really good at some of these games. There's one that's like a tic tac toe board. We hide the treats in one and Beau goes at it. Its really fun to watch him, especially, with his nose, (he can sniff out anything food related) and shakes and wiggles his butt, its funny to watch him get so excited

mmm, believe you are discussing toys like Nina Ottoson toys?
K9 nosework is newer venue with its own classes, trials and titles that has been probably fastest growing venue here recently.

I went to original workshop with Ron and Jill Marie couple years ago

but never found time and $$ to get involved deeply although we have been playing with boxes etc
something like that

this particular online class will start in Jan so we are on our own yet, it is f-u-u-u-n for boys. I have not started the odors yet, will probably get a kit for beginners.
We probably have more nose work classes offered here in Chicago now than agility classes...

Every decent trainer here now offering NW classes. I think part of the reasons it attract different type of audience, i.e. people who retired or have retired dogs can do something which is not very challenging physically. Does not take whole lot of training as dogs already know how to use their sniffer...
Reactive and fearful dogs that otherwise not comfortable in classes can do it as dog works alone with handler in the room. It can be done just about anywhere, car searches in any parking lot etc. Dogs are blossoming because it is totally positive reward based training, no corrections of any kind.
It is funny to see however how some dogs never learned to think for themselves. Some obedience dogs are so drilled that they won't go out of heeling pattern I wish to say that would be mine, but nope.... my monkeys have no problems connecting word " search" with trashing everything in sight trying to find a treat
Funny but hounds are not the best dogs to use their sniffer
I felt I wanted to leave this venue till we get older but there are trials just about every month in the area and people are getting titles and bragging so much I feel left behind

lol
oh isn't that INTERESTING??
Especially the hounds, but not that surprising-- a lot of them are naturally air scenting and doing pattern / grid searching and don't collect themselves to put da nose on the ground, in my limited experience.

It sounds like a blast, I tell ya you should try Discdogs that is my new obsession, my little reactive dude loves it, and there isn't much to stress over. We won't be doing any vaulting or high jumps etc, he doesn't have the body for it, but I'll be darned he loves it and catches realllly well.
But I would LOVE working on the tracking... it sounds glorious for the dogs, too!
