Well we are back from our Vet visit and it was not good news. Let me start by saying how kind, caring, patient and concerned the vet I saw today was. I am so happy I found this practice through my Sister. Today I saw Dr Todd, we had a very long chat to start and he already knew of Gypsy's situation through Dr Bruce who I would normally see there.

He started by saying Gypsy's case is very unusal especially at her age. No matter what we have done we have seen no improvement or stabilization in her numbers. He feels she is now in complete Kidney Failure and this is the reason for the incontinence. He said her Kidneys are both so damaged at this point they can no longer do their job and therefore evrything is just flushing right through. He felt it was in Gypsy's best interest to let her go now. I was not ready to do that on the spot and told him I needed time with her atleast for the weekend. He said he was there to support me in what ever decision I make and would be there for anything I needed.

We discussed how to make her comfortable for now and this is what we did. I had them give her a larger amount of fluids while I was there than we normally give her, he prescribed PPA which is a fast acting med to tighten her Sphincter muscle and also gave her a long acting antibiotic shot. Normally we wouldn't give her antibiotics but he felt just in case of infection even though one is not showing and at the very least it would help her current skin lesions and make her more comfortable. So before anyone goes screaming about them remember this is to give her tempory relief.

There is nothing more that can be done for my girl and it is just up to me to come to terms with it and give her the gift I gave my sweet Chandler. I can't believe it will be one year on April 11th since I sent my boy to the Bridge and I will soon be making that decision for my girl as well.

Thank you so much for all of your prayers and kind words. We will certainly need them these next few days.

Dawn, there are no words to give you right now. You know all our hearts are breaking with you and for you and we'll be praying for your strength in the coming days. You have been the best ever Sheltie parent to your furkids and I know Gypsy loves you for it. The final gift you give her will be one of love and, finally, health as she's freed from her illness.

Sending you love and hugs.

Oh, Dawn, I'm so sorry. Enjoy every moment you have left with Gypsy and know we are all right there with you to support the both of you through this. You have done everything you possibly could for Gypsy and have been the most loving and caring Sheltie Mom possible.

Gypsy, little girl, we all love you and feel like you are one of our own dogs. I really hope you can somehow feel all the love this community is sending your way.
