Default Peanut Butter Dog Buscuits

Peanut Butter Dog Biscuit (original recipe from Sacramento & Co.)

2 cups whole wheat flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 cup natural peanut butter
1 cup skim milk (I used 2%)

Mix dry ingredients. Mix milk and peanut butter, separately. Combine. Roll out to 1/4" thickness and cut shapes. Prepare cookie sheets with non-stick spray. Bake at 385 degrees for about 20 minutes. Cool and store airtight in the refrigerator. Best if allowed to come to room temp first.

And if you dribble honey on them, they're great for people, too!!

This is GREAT! I've been looking for some treat recipes.

My problem is Edan has a wheat allergy so I'm not sure what flours I can use.

Any suggestions this thread can provide would be fantastic!

When I went into town yesterday I bought "Smudge" a dog cookbook. It came with a cat cookie cutter and a bone cookie cutter. He can't have it until Christmas though.

They don't have very many dog cookbooks at our Books a Million. I guess I should look online.

You can buy brown rice flour. They make it for people with wheat and gluten allergies

GeeRome, one of our members, has couple of really great ideas for home made dog treats. Here is the link to her blog:

I've made the liver treats, Sadie goes crazy over them and they contain no wheat

I tried this thread or mention of anyone having recipes for treats some time ago. I'm glad it will be of interest to some, and that Chris has started it~

Theres probably not one day aweek that my oven is not on here,so doing treats or otherwise nutricious items for the pups is no big deal.

Heres' one of the babes favorites~

Banana Mutt Cookies
1-1/2 c.mashed banana
1/2 tesp. Vanilla
1/4 c. applesauce
1/4 c. oats

Preheat oven to 350.Mix all ingrediants, drop by teaspoon or table spoon depending on how big you want hem,on a greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 15-20minutes.Store in airtight container or freeze.

Tuna Ticklers
2 can's of tuna (can use salmon to)
1/2 c. parsley
2 c.all purpose flour
3 eggs-shell to
1/3 c sesame seeds (optional)

Preheat oven to 375.mix all ingrediants well. I use my processor
Knead & roll to 1/4" inch thick.I do thicker because I use dog bone cutters,or cut into any desired shape.
Bake on greased cookie sheet about 20minutes
Store in fridge or freeze portions.

now of course,Fishy Fudge is also a HUGE hit here~

I am so going to try this one. It sounds good for people, too. I'll sample it first to make sure it's safe for Smudge to eat. Yeah. That's it.

Ontariosheltie, would the liver treats be fatty? How much can you give?

~~

Here's one of Indie's favourites:

Carrot Apple Oatmeal Flax Cookies
Makes about 1 lb (500 g) of cookies
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C)
- Nonstick baking sheets - Food processor
- Rolling pin - Pizza cutter
3 cups whole wheat flour 750 mL
1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats 250 mL
2 tbsp flaxseeds 25 mL
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon 2 mL
3/4 cup water 175 mL
1/2 cup chopped carrot 125 mL
1/4 cup finely chopped cored apple 50 mL
2 tbsp each blackstrap molasses 25 mL
and canola oil
1 large egg 1
1 tsp vanilla 5 mL

1. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, flaxseeds and cinnamon. In a food processor, combine water, carrot, apple, molasses, oil, egg and vanilla. Puree until smooth. Pour over dry ingredients and mix well.

2. In the bowl and using hands, knead until dough holds together. Transfer to lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll out dough to about 1/8-inch (3 mm) thickness. With a fork, poke holes all over the surface of the dough. Using a pizza cutter or a sharp knife, cut dough into bite-size rectangles or squares. Place about 1/2 inch (1 cm) apart on baking sheets.

3. Bake in preheated oven, in batches if necessary, for 20 minutes or until firm. Place pans on racks and let cool completely. Reduce oven temperature to 300°F (150°C). Bake for 30 minutes longer or until hard. Transfer cookies to a rack and let cool completely. Store in a tightly sealed container for up to 30 days.

Another all-veggie favourite treat can be found at Pets.ca here. I can tell you they smell really good !

I couldn't find the liver oatmeal cookie recipe, but I found one online that looks close:

12-16 oz. raw liver
1 1/2 lbs. white flour
8 oz. Quaker Oats
3 bouillon cubes, (meat or chicken flavored)
Approx. 1 cup water
2 eggs, beaten

Preheat oven to 350F. Grease 3 tins (cookie sheets?). Chop the liver finely, or put briefly in a blender. Mix flour and oats, crumble in the bouillon cubes, and add eggs and the chopped liver. Add enough water to make a firm but slightly sticky dough. Spread evenly on the tins, about 1/2" thick. Dip a small dog-biscuit cutter in flour before cutting out each portion. Bake 1 hour. Can be kept for about 2 weeks.
