Default Is there a such thing as a ....?

miniature collie?? I had friends over and they all said "Oh I love your miniature collie... and i corrected them saying he is a Shetland sheepdog...i wasnt offended ..i love collies and they all liked my lil boy.... and yes they do look like little collies .. but technically is there really a breed called miniature collies or is it just a term used for shelties.

Does it bother anyone if they call your sheltie a miniature collie??? I kinda dont like it for some reason .... dont know why.... like i said i love collies.... but he is a sheltie!!!!!! damn it !! lol

Oh, dear! Wait for the comments! Fur will fly with this question!

I personally don't get warped about it. I wish more people were educated. My only objection to the word "miniature" anything is that it opens it up for those breeders who keep trying to come up smaller and smaller versions of our babies...tea cup this, and miniature that! And the general public thinks its now ok. NO! Breed to standard, you fools!

No
But I don't take offense at the miniature collie statement either.
I like collies.
Too bad they aren't shelties though.

LOL

I dont want fur to fly ...lol... i was just wondering if there was such a thing..i understand what you mean tho.... with the tea cup poodles and all the designer dogs they are trying to create. People ask me sumtimes "what kinda dog do you have ?" and when I say sheltie or shetland sheepdog some dont know the breed so I have to say with a fake smile ... well they look like a miniature collie. UGHHH they force me to say it lol!!

I can't even count the times we have heard..gosh your collie is so pretty.and when we say no he is a sheltie, they just look at you with this blank look, like well it's a mini version of a collie.

In the very few times someone actually gets it right,we thank them. And it usually been a person that has owned one.

To my knowledge there is no such thing as a miniature collie. In my area there aren't very many shelties but surprisingly most people know my dogs are shelties. If they call them miniature collies I do correct them and tell them they are not collies but a totally different breed. I do it nicely and don't get all bent out of shape about it though.

exactly !!!! i get that blank look or the "they are the same thing" look. I dont get mad .... they all think he looks cute and he gets a compliment so its fine with me ... as long as you like my lil boy your ok in my book ... i will inform you on what type of dog he is .

I personally don't care if people ask if Meggie is a minature collie. Just a few years ago I didn't know what a sheltie was either. Then my grand-doggers stole my heart.

I just correct them and tell them she's a sheltie, the best breed ever!
