Default Box work

We picked up one of our team's boxes with the ball launcher in it last night. We thought we'd start training the pups on how to catch the ball when it's launched.

Here's Darby after three attempts..

We were floored.. I fully expected it to take weeks.

Great work. Darby is looking really good - most important thing for a long career in flyball that turn.

But I must say I thought Deja was hilarious - 'its my turn its my turn' lol - she already has the waiting on the sidelines activity down pat! You just cant train for that level of enthusiasm.

Have you tried using a small ball for Deja - the long sheltie pointy nose makes small balls a bit easier to catch. You will notice the difference when they are speeding back over jumps - Tully cant get the speed and jump with a large ball in her mouth. She will always drop a large ball in favour of jumping. Deska isnt too bad with large balls, but then he is much bigger.

Is that the actual competition box? Its quite different to ours where the ball disappears (makes it harder for small dogs to spring the box). Much prefer your one - they see the ball too so that would rev them up!

We've tried small and large squishies as well as normal tennis balls. We are seeing improvement with her holding the ball and she gets most excited with the regular tennis ball.

Yep, that's a standard ball launcher.
