Hi, my dog may have had an allergic reaction to something at the beach, and kept biting at the fur on his leg, so we took him to our vet. He shaved of all the fur, and initially there were a few cut-like marks. However, now the "cuts" have healed, but the skin that was shaved off either has black dots or is almost completely black. Does anyone know why this happened? Thanks!

Inflammation/irritation can cause the skin to become hyperpigmented. You may notice some dogs will have it in their hip crease/crotch from licking at irritants (ex. sweaty hair). The vet's clippers may have irritated the skin, the reaction may have caused it, or your dog licking at the site. I'm not sure there's anything you can do at this point but avoid future irritation to the site.

Greenpony, that seems to be the problem. Thanks for the advice! Do you know any medication that could help it get better? Is it permanent, and can fur still grow there later(if it isn't a permanent condition)? Thanks a ton!
