so Cran got to go to a rally trial this past weekend all by himself. it was a few hours away so we had to stay in a motel and rather than trying to take all 4 dogs, I left the other three with my friend. we are trying to get Master points for his RACH and trying to get the scores to qualify for the 2020 RNC.
we got some points and we got the scores so we plan to be in Ohio next summer.....

he did pretty well considering how few times we've practiced in the last couple months.........
he would have had some great scores from one of the judges- she apparently only deducted for his barks....................
I was very happy with his backups- we're still working on backing up and turning to back up some more- we lost some points there...... but at least he's doing a pretty good job at the straight backing up in trials...

He is amazing to watch, he literally prances and is soooo very intent on you.

What exactly is rally - looks like a form of obedience, but with hand signals? Sorry, I could google it but lazy. I know they have Rally at my training facility and have seen the trainer setting up for it. How long have you been doing this?

Thank you for sharing the videos!!!

it is basically obedience on a numbered course where you can talk to your dog and use unlimited hand signals. Judges are not supposed to score as strictly as for obedience but some of them do:rolleyes2:

Cranberry and Dixie were in their first trial in 2011. I'd titled Callie in Rally Novice in 2010 so her first trial would have been 2009. Cran and Dix got their Rally Novice titles in 2012 and we've just kept going. Dixie topped out at the RE level. When they added the Master class, Cran had already gotten the RAE which was the highest title at that time- 10 double Qs in Excellent and Advanced. To get that many Qs, we had to do indoor trials in addition to the 2 local outdoor trials so Dixie never went for that- she did not appreciate indoor trials.
so Cran has continued on and has Qs/points over halfway to his RACH (Rally Champion)- AKC requires that half of the needed 300 points come from the Master class- we need 100 more Master points but he's now over 300 points total. He has 17 of the 20 triple Qs so we'll have those long before we get the Master points.

I applaud you and Cran! Your journey has been terrific and so fun to watch! I found Masters to be stressful, and Justus just can't keep his mouth shut anymore!

some of those Master signs are pretty crazy....
Cran didn't do too bad with barking- even with the judge who did deduct for barking- I think we still got over 95s with her.
some of the other people watching were like- he didn't bark that time- and I was like- are you sure? I thought he did... but there's video evidence- you can hear him if you have the volume on. sometimes, you can hear other dogs too......
I thought it was a great weekend all in all....

Fantastic runs you guys had! You had such focus from Cran, his barking wasn't too bad. I find with Piper I have to work him for a good 30 minutes before we go on and I won't get a peep from him, otherwise it's bark bark bark!
I need to get a cd of dog show sounds to try to condition Finnie...with the clapping it just gets him so anxious he constantly barks!
Did you find that your boys took awhile to learn to heel (or that they just had so much oomph they were always one step ahead?)
My trainer said to me she thinks the reason for this is because Finnie isn't neutered. However she has Shepherds, much more laid back dogs than Shelties...
I had the same issues with Piper, don't know if it's a maturity issue or a neutering issue (I like to wait to get him done). He turns 2 end of January so his time is coming lol.
