My new Sheltie has a blue eye and a brown eye. [He is about 8 weeks old] Are there any short or long term effects from this?

Not that I am aware of! Many Sheltie owners on this site have one brown and one blue eye and have not reported any issues!

Thank you. Good to hear that. Do the colors usually stay put? [ the color in each eye stays the same]

I have had several blues with one blue and one brown eye and it isn't an issue at all...nothing to worry about. :)

Thank you. So great to hear this. And do the colors never change?

without reading your other post, I guess that your new sheltie is a merle...
merles frequently have blue eyes or spots of blue in the brown eye...
the eyes will stay blue/brown and there's no health issues related to that.
I have 2 shelties with one blue/one brown eye (it's called heterochromia and also occurs in people, cats, etc). I had one in a pet store years ago and a kid asked if he could see out of the blue eye- I'm like people can see out of their blue eyes, why would you think that a dog couldn't see because the eye was blue.

No, the blue eye will stay blue and the brown will stay brown. There is an old wives/folk's tale that the brown eye sees by day and the blue sees by night. Not true of course. Trini

Old folk tales are fascinating. The Chukchis in Alaska believed that the brown eye in a Husky looked downward to the ground while the blue eye looked to the sky.
