Oops, I meant to put this on the cracked paw pad thread. His injured toenail is fine now

Well it's always crappy news to have to keep your young active dog quiet! Sorry to hear about his paw now. Praying for your sanity now.... ;)

I’m so discouraged right now...Kip’s toenail was looking great, his paw pad is 99% better, then today he was being a nut. Jumping around, full of energy, being his usual crazy self. He jumped about 3 feet into the air, and when he landed he immediately took a few limping steps on his left front foot. I checked the pad, it looked fine. Then he was fine and stopped limping.

I was really hoping he just landed on a rock, and didn’t actually hurt himself. Then this evening he was back to being crazy playful, jumped about 4 feet into the air (it’s just something he does when he is excited. I’m not encouraging him!!), landed, seemed ok. But now he is definitely limping very slightly on his left front leg. Nooooooooo!!!

I’m going to keep him quiet and see how he is in the morning. I really hope we don’t have to go through another traumatic vet visit. I’m hoping he just bruised his paw. It’s a very slight limp.

I really don’t need another vet bill right now. Especially if he needs x-rays.

    Oh no... not again!
I swear you are going to have to tether that boy to you so you can control that exuberance until he heals! Sending you virtual hugs...
I hope it won’t be long until he is 100 percent

Poor Kip...if it's not one thing, it's another! I'd certainly start crating or using an xpen, I've been there with both my dogs (Piper shoulder...3 month to recover and Finnie hock ...5 months) and if there's anything I've learnt is as soon as they start limping I get out the xpen. Hopefully it's not serious and you'll be able to nip it in the bud quickly. You can also check his joints for any heat or swelling. Hopefully it's just a minor muscle pull that some rest will take care of. Fingers crossed he's feeling better soon!

Awww dang it! I hate it when you think you're in the clear, and then here we go again. Have had this issue with Faith also. They just won't self-regulate, if they feel good (and sometimes if they don't!) they are in crazy play mode again. I do think your best bet may be a crate or xpen for a bit. Hope he gets over it quickly.

Yes, you guys are right, time to start crating. I have several crates and x-pens. He will be bored out of his mind, but it’s for the best. I want to wrap him in bubble wrap!!

Kip’s limp is barely noticeable this morning. He is a bit sensitive about me handling one of his toes on that foot. I think if the toe was broken he would be limping much worse? But I don’t really know. He limped much much worse when he tore his nail.

Kip is almost due for his annual heartworm test, so I’m thinking of seeing if I can get an appointment early next week, and if he’s still limping ask them to look at his leg too. I just want to make sure nothing is broken, although it seems unlikely

Is Finnie’s hock completely healed now? How did that brace work out for him?

I couldn’t get an appointment until the 24th. Hopefully he will be better by then anyway, but he still needs his heartworm test so we will keep the appointment
