Okay, I know that there are alot of great dog and puppy toys out there on the market but, I want to get the right toys for when I get Dutchess. I was wondering if anyone has a preference to types of toys or perhaps brand of toys that would be better for a pup?? I have gotten a couple of rope toys and a bungy Gecko already but I have heard about Babble Balls, Kongs with a rope, squeaker toys and the like. I have never had a Sheltie before and I am very anxious about it but I still want to make good choices for my little girl. Do you guys have any suggestions?? You guys have wonderful ideas so I thought that I would throw this one out. I have seen the thread on toys but I didn't know if these types of toys are just personal preference or is there a brand that is better. Thanks for all the input!!

    You guys are awesome!

    Thanks,
    Char

    My pups favorite toys:

A kong filled with canned food or pumpkin. I freeze them overnight, so they last longer.

This plush toy that has 8 squeakers. She loves to just "shake him to death"

This is another favorite toy and good for teething.

Also, the hol-ee roller. This is her favorite ball. Great for fetch and easy for her to pick up

Lastly, I have one of those treat dispensing balls. she has to move the ball around and treats fall out of the hole. Great for keeping her mind occupied.

Meggie loves the hol-ee roller too. It is BY FAR her favorite toy. You can also get treats that are larger than the holes and stretch a hole to put the treat in the ball. It will take the pup awhile to get the treat out. Good mental stimulation.

She also likes toys with squeakers. Squeak, squeak, squeak!!!

I think it depends on the dog. They all have different little personalities! I have a bin full of different toys from stuffed animals, squeaky toys, balls, ropes etc...
Noah loves tennis balls..I have never seen a sheltie with such an obsession with them...I would swear hes part lab if I didn't know better...all day long he wants you to throw the ball...
Mia loves anything that squeaks..the more obnoxious the better:rolleyes2:
Molly loves ropes and loves to rip them apart too
However they all love the huge playground ball I have its by far their fav toy...I have to keep it out of sight or they ruin it:uhoh:

Yes it depends on the dog.
Justice votes for the Holee roler with the treats inside his favorite, tennis ball tugs and fleece tug toys. He also likes any stuff animals and Stuffed Kongs

Diva loves any kind of toy that can be thrown around, balls, kongs, tugs of any kind. She is not picky.

Ember doesn't like toys. Kongs work for her. Anything food orietated but that's it.

We like Kongs too. Kong Wubbas are especially nice because of the squeaker. Wubbas are good fetch toys too.

Anything that is stuffed and has a squeaker gets a paws up from Buffy. Many of her toys have berber fleece on them and we can just stick them in the wash when they get dirty.

I also like rope toys. They last a long time and are kind of like doggie dental floss.

We also have Lamby - which has 5 squeakers, including one that sounds like a duck. Buffy will just sit there and squeak them one by one. This toy is like Buffy-size, so it's funny to watch her play with it.

The only ones we do not like are tennis balls. Buffy loses no time in stripping them apart and eating all the fluffy stuff... and for some reason tennis balls are the only toys she has broken right away. I also read that some tennis balls have fiberglass in them. I guess all dogs are different.

Randi - what treat dispensing ball do you use? I haven't found one that works well for Buffy... her treats are small so they all fall out at once.

I have this one from petco http://www.petco.com/product/102717/JW-Pet-Amaze-A-Ball-Treat-Ball-for-Dogs.aspx?CoreCat=DogSFC_Toys

The treats do fall out faster then I'd like, but it's pretty good.

I also have the tug a jug. Bailey can not seem to figure it out. Mine has a rubber rope. I took the rope out and she still can't seem to get it. http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3641000

Thanks for all the ideas. They give me alot to choose from. There are some things that I hadn't thought of too. I will have to let everyone know when I adopt my little girl.

    Thanks again!

Mine like anything that food falls out of..
Abby likes stuffed toys but she has a disturbing habit of ripping their faces off before she de guts them..:eek2:
Abby also likes a soccer ball that has ropes on it...she plays snouty soccer with it..she will occasionally bring to me to kick or throw..but she will play a long time with it all by herself.
Clancy likes those big balls that are for kids..but he's such a big oaf, he's popped a few.
They like tuggy toys..they have one that looks like a snake that they fight over.
Clancy is annoying with squeaker toys..he walks around with one and squeaks it over and over...
Then there was my first Sheltie girly...she never played with toys...so it just depends I think...

As puppys mine loved anything that made a noise. The babble ball is hilarious - but it does tend to encourage noisy and silly play. I also brought stuffed animals that made noises and heaps of squeaky toys. Smaller is better as shelties have relatively small mouths compared to other breeds and they aren't quite as destructive. I also brought a lot of cat toys - they esp liked the squeaky or jingly ones I could dangle around and they could chase.
