Brodie.... was u/s #3, doing every 6 months, on milk thistle supplement, remains at 20% sludge.

Deacon.... was baseline as he turns 5 this November, has the largest gallbladder the vet has ever seen in a dog his size, totally clear, follow up in a year.

I was SO nervous about Deacon, he doesn't lie down on his left side which is the best side for gb u/s viewing per Dr. Stone. He started by just allowing Deacon to stand, then they laid him on his right side and he behaved. So they flipped him to his left side.... oh my goodness, what a twisting, panicked, determined little guy he was... but he got outnumbered and remained on the table. The noises that came out of him though.... wow, he is quite the opinionated little fur ball.

Bloodwork should come back tomorrow... will report on it as well when I have it. Very relieved.

Does anyone supplement with fish oil or omega-3 oil for gallbladder? I was reading it may help.

I've been giving the boys the green lipped mussel powder for omega 3's just because!
I didn't even know it was good for gallbladder LOL!

Might I ask what supplement you are using and how long? My husband might kill me if I add in another supplement to the boys diet... but the grouch loves them too.... :)

PS - not sure how I managed to post twice... if someone could delete the first message, I'd be grateful!

That's great news, Sandy! Mine all get omega 3's in their daily supplements. Depending on their age, they all get different products. Your hubby should see my cabinet dedicated to dog products! :ROFLMAO: Mine gave up a long time ago!

That’s great news Sandy!
I’m sure Finnie will be just as difficult but I doubt he’ll be as noisy!
I use the Super Snouts green lipped mussel and I use seal oil as it’s much better for dogs than just fish oil. The combination of GLM and seal oil helps to keep them in tip top shape!
Piper hasn’t had an issue with his arthritis in months (elbow) and the last time it bothered him it only lasted for one day!
The brand for the seal oil I use is the Waspu seal oil. My dogs love it, I like the fact it has no odour! lol

here’s some info of seal oil

Will look into the Super Snouts. Seal products, including seal oil, are banned in the US so that’s out. I want to supplement with Omega 3’s and see if there’s any change for tge next U/S. I still wonder if pre-emptive gallbladder surgery has a place…..

Do you use green lipped mussels as well? Looking for some decent product recommendations as there are just SO many products around for pets... hard to know decent, well loved, useful supplements. And Lisa, you use GLM as well as oil?
I use both as well Sandy, the oil I’ve been using for a year and the green lipped mussel I’ve been using for 7 years with Piper, Blueberry and Finnie for several years now. Nice to know there’s been an added benefit to doubling up on the omega 3’s!

Yes, my seniors get the Super Snout Joints. One thing I will caution...read the labels on every supplement you give. I also give my seniors Missing Link multi purpose supplement and they both have omega 3s. Several of the other skin and joint supplements I use have it too. You can overdose omega 3s which causes other problems. Check the maximum amount of omega 3s your dogs should have according to their weight and make sure you're not oversupplementing it.

I'm a big proponent of prophilactic gallbladder removal once sludge starts increasing past 50 percent. I've done it with three. Ruffles was an emergency and that was way more stressful and twice as expensive. The others all healed faster too.
