Rabbit Run Game Face, "Checkers" ~ 12/21/06 - 1/8/24

We said goodbye to our precious Checkers today. She lived an amazing 17 years until age took her vision, hearing, cognition and mobility, and it was time to give her the last gift I could: peace. I will miss her more than words can say. She was the matriarch in our house...my first and best show dog who loved it so much she would show herself. She didn't need me on the other end of the lead.

I was lucky enough to have five bonus years with her despite the odds, after she beat mast cell and spindle cell cancer and gallbladder surgery at ages 11 and 12. Every day has been a blessing. Rest in peace my sweet girl, until we meet again.

So sorry to hear about Checkers- so many here know what kind of loss this is, about the hole in the heart. It sounds like Checkers had such a loving and supportive family and I can only imagine she was so grateful for her years with you. Checkers was lucky to have had her time with you and you with her--the loss is forever felt but so is the joy in remembrance.

Oh my gosh, so very sorry. Even though they are old and the decision to let them go may not be as hard, the loss is felt more keenly for the years they are by your side.

What an amazing girl, tough but gentle, she reminds me so much of Tully. I bet she's going to leave a great big hole in everyone's heart.
