Crate Pads

For those with dogs that don't tear up beds/bedding/crate pads.. I'm just wondering what people think about them. Like, Missy is in her crate about 8-9 hours a day while I'm at work. She's in a 36" crate, so plenty of room to stretch out, move around if she wanted to. For a while, I had a primo pad and a fleece crate pad in there, but then she had a couple accidents while I was at work and I decided to throw the crate pad out. So now just the primo pad is in there. Wondering for joint purposes, what kind of padding should she be laying on? Is something overly soft bad for their joints? I'm wondering if I should get a nice orthopedic foam crate pad and take out the primo pad, or keep the primo pad and put another simple crate pad on top of it.

If there's an IKEA close by you, we like to use these baby duvets in the crate: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/80296088/

They're soft and comfy and cheap. I just fold one in half and it provides a nice and cushy bed in the crate. You can get a couple and swap them out to clean them.

Don't mean to start anything at all but do you have to crate her the whole day while you're gone? Is leaving her in an x-pen an option at all? We use one for day time while I'm at work - though I do come home for an hour for lunch every day and let him out to play.

If you're crating day and night, it just seems like a long time to be crated. Not sure if it would contribute to stiff joints but just a thought. :)

Jess, I was thinking the same with Cleo. I bought a fleece crate pad at the flyball terminate in Indy and thought it works great, but Cleo pushes it to the side and lays on the flat plastic board underneath. I don't know why she does this but I am concerned about her being on that for 8 hours as well. So I am interested to see what everyone says and if there is a mat I can put in there that she can't move out of the way that isn't going to kill my wallet.

Yes, because I don't want her getting into something. No, I have a small apartment and there isn't room for an x-pen. She wouldn't like it anyways. She's only in the crate for 8-9 hours a day on work days max. The rest of the time she's out, she sleeps in my bed.
