Dental drama

OMG this morning as we were playing frisbee with the dogs on the wide lawns of city college, as we do every Sunday morning, I looked up to see Elijah looking very worried and working his mouth weirdly. So I ran over and saw drops of blood on his head! I opened his mouth and he was bleeding and missing an incisor (the small teeth between the fangs) on the bottom. And as I touched the other teeth there I realized another one is loose and ready to fall out. Hubby had just brushed their teeth Friday night and all was fine.

He actually had not caught a frisbee either, just chased it, so I have no idea why that tooth suddenly came out. Arrrgghh. So I will be calling the vet on Monday morning. The rest of his teeth look pretty good except a bit of tartar here and there especially the farthest back molars on the top but nothing serious. So we'll see what she says, but if he needs a dental and X-rays, it is going to cost a mint. His bottom incisors have never been completely straight up, but kind of angled out a bit. What a shock though and definitely put a damper on our morning fun. :(

Ugh, that's awful. You aren't kidding about the dentals, it's crazy what they cost and you know that's what the vet is probably going to tell you. Poor guy, is he able to eat OK? Do you think he picked up something hard to chew that loosened the teeth? What a mystery. I'm so sorry!

I'm sorry to hear Elijah lost a tooth, could he got ahold of something hard while you guys were playing? I hope he's not in to much pain.and the bleeding has stopped Please give him a pat from us and mat his favorite treat if he is up to eating. Best of luck when you see your Vet..

Hopefully you can get a break like I did with Finnie! Ask your vet if Eli would do with just the sedation (if he doesn’t need a dental yet)…it sure made a big difference for us!
Hopefully Eli isn’t in too much discomfort…Finnie with his loose insizor I don’t think it hurt him at all, he’d still carry toys around in the front of his mouth.

Well, the appointment went well, physical exam was "perfect". His teeth are pretty good except the very back upper molars where it's hard to brush, there's some tartar there. So he will be having a dental cleaning and X-rays of his mouth, and hopefully only losing the one other loose incisor. Blood and urine drawn for pre-anesthesia, results on Monday, should be no surprises there (fingers crossed!) and the dental is on Wednesday. She had a cancellation so could get us in pretty quick. Won't be cheap though.

Glad to hear that the appointment went well overall. I hope it goes well next week.(Will keep our fingers crossed)
I can relate to it not being cheap. Although after Teddy's cleaning, with nothing extra done except X-rays and the cleaning. iIt still was 600 dollars for everything.I am thinking I made out well compared to the bills my Dentist sent me for my son recently. :)
