Can you give me an idea of what your basic daily meal would have in it Margi? I would imagine a 10 week old pup might have a hard time eating a chicken back so perhaps chicken necks would be easier until they get the hang of it? Also, did you feed any veggies and did you add any supplements like the bovine colostrum?

I started feeding raw back in 2000, so I'm kind of old school Billinghurst original BARF. I got into it before the veggies/no veggies argument, or the folks that go to such great lengths to follow the prey model.
I do make a veggie mush and mix it into a ground mix of meat, heart and liver (usually beef or pork). That's their breakfast. Dinner is some kind of meaty bone like chicken backs, necks, or wings or turkey necks or duck necks. I used to feed them eggs at least once a week and fish once a week. If I could get my hands on anything else like venison or rabbit or quail I would grab it. However rotating those staples of beef duck turkey and chicken seems to keep them in tip top shape. I always throw a squirt of salmon oil and coconut oil on their meat mix in the morning. And every now and then I give them a multivitamin tab. I never did that for my last two boys and they were never sick a day in their lives, but I figger well I take one myself so what could it hurt and maybe covers some base I'm missing LOL
I do remember being a bit flummoxed at first when Fillion was so TINY! Chicken necks and backs and wings that I beat with a hammer to break up the bones a bit worked fine. Guess that's why mom pre-chews the pups food in the wild
If you want to do veggies I'd be glad to send you my recipe.
I think possibly I'm just overthinking it too much...for my two I usually do a mix of meat (I usually do chicken or turkey) and heart and liver (I've never used kidneys as I've heard they smell like urine...yuck) as well as sardines and oysters. Do you use ground beef or do you buy beef and grind it? (I've never used beef or pork but it's usually pretty cheap to buy a whole pork loin and very lean) I also give them kelp powder and green lipped mussels and salmon oil and flax seeds.
It did say for pups to start them out with just one protein and add another every week so should I do a separate mix of meat until I know what he can tolerate?
I don't think we have a raw feeding co-op where I live...fortunately we have a good butcher in my neighborhood where I can get the heart and liver and sometimes turkey necks. I also order cases of chicken backs from them (16.00 for 11 pounds)...I saw these on an online raw pet store and they were 5$/pound...yikes!
I also add veggies to their meat but I'd love your recipe if you don't mind...I'm always willing to try something new and possibly better for them!
