Finally, Juno blows her coat!

Gosh soon to be 13 months old, and after a bath she finally has blown her puppy coat. Man, that undercoat came out in handfuls. She was not a big fan of being brushed but tolerated it okay. She looks so much thinner now!
She will be getting spayed early December, so it will be interesting to see what her coat does after that. I've never had a dog do their first shed so late.

Hard to believe she’s all grown up…but good that she let you get that excess fur out...but how come no pictures? lol
Blueberry sheds the most of all my dogs but in all honesty none of mine had a major shedding. Piper had a good coat at 1 and never lost it, Finnie at 1 neve4 really had a thick coat to lose (it took him until 4 or 5 to get some good coat) and Blueberry I think with her heat (which she still has because of the ovary sparing spay) loses a huge amount after each. She still doesn’t have a huge coat. Thick yes but no long flowing coat like Piper.

I've always heard that blues have more coat than other colors. I did find that to be true with Bandit, the one blue we had. Shedding to some extent is also governed by light (as in daylight) which has always puzzled me since it happens that way for some and not others. And she was too young to shed last fall. Dunno, people have tried to figure out the mystery of shedding for ages and I'm not sure how much is fact and how much is just Sheltie lore. I have three shedding now and two that aren't...go figure!

Keep that brush handy....you're going to need it for a while!

Angus never blew his coat but he shed continuously. The boy was solid hair.

We just dropped $200 dollars at the groomer. In spite of daily brushings and a ton of Sheltie fur they had to demat the dogs and we got nailed for it-- they do look good tho and both have lost about 5 lbs or more-- They were really upset nervous this afternoon when we came home- it must have been quite a procedure..now they have both crashed and are asleep. Again they do look good and all that undercoat gone bet that will feel good tomorrow..

I never saw so much fur as Benny dropped at almost 2 yrs. He never grew that much back again thankfully. Much easier to deal with.

Finnie used to chew on Piper’s fur! Sometimes I’d come home and find a wet area on Piper, or see him chewing on it! Once he had an almost bald spot on his hip area from Finnie. He did finally outgrow it, either that or Blueberry distracted him and made him stop lol. I haven’t seen him do it for a number of years.
