Funky puppy coat

We're showing this weekend and my friend wants to give up for a while because the pup' coat is looking a bit funky. The pup is a 4mth old tri. He is partially fuzz but is growing in adult hair around the rear and along the back so it's really hard to get any consistency in the coat.

Wondering what you guys do to a puppy coat for shows, or is it better to give it a rest while its growing like this?

Enter him as a baby coyote :lol:
 
Here in the states, we can't show our puppies until they are 6 months old.
A pretty puppy, is a pretty puppy, no matter what the coat looks like.
If the puppy has correct structure, it is a blessing to show off.

Here is a picture of Tofu Pup handling Tansy her first weekend out showing, at age 6 months going breed over a special. You can see her "lack of coat"!:lol:

I am so enjoying coat stages. But, the dog holds up based on structure, not on coat. What judge wants all that hair obscuring conformation?:wink2: Too much hair can even hamper working. We are still doing our best to be patient waiting for some hair...."give me it down to there.Hair!"

Amen to that! If the structure is solid, the coat is secondary in a puppy. Now if they're going through the "Sheltie put together by a committee" stage, that's another thing. Layla always looked like the perfect Sheltie, but Bitsy Boodle went through a really homely spell -- coyote uuuuugggggly!!!:lol:
