Harrisburg Kennel Club Dog Show

April 17th is the Harrisburg PA Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show. This is one of the legs of the Eukanuba Championship, and it's a blast. I went two years ago and had a wonderful time. Of course there are scads of Shelties! So if you live within striking distance, plan for this waycool, all day event. The Best of Show competition is filmed for TV!

Too bad it isn't in the summer, I would have loved to go but won't be able to go because of the distance. I've gone with my husband to a truck show in that area a few times in a row and would love to go with our pups for a dog show!

As an added incentive for Sheltie lovers to go to the Harrisburg shows, the Harrisburg Shetland Sheepdog club holds their annual Specialty on the Saturday... this means a bigger-than-usual Sheltie entry (more Shelties to see!) and breeders/exhibitors from all over.

Awe stop it! I want to go!

Not sure that I will be there.....but my mom's setter Maple will be showing there. I will know more at a later time.

I am close to Harrisburg. Can I bring my pup and just hang out and see the sites??

Dogs NOT entered in competition or NOT participating in a Blue and Gray Cluster Event are PROHIBITED from entering the show grounds by AKC regulations.

guess thats a big no :(

Hi SheltieGuy,

Yes, the rules generally are that unentered dogs aren't allowed at the show site... honestly, Harrisburg is a HUGE show that draws a massive crowd in a noisy building. The show dogs have their private crates and grooming areas to retire to (and they're usually old hat at the dog-show routine), but a dog attending "as a spectator" doesn't have much opportunity to get away from the crowds, noise, and new smells.

You're heartily encouraged to come check out the show - there are lots of great vendors, many dog-folk to meet, and lots of different breeds to check out. Your pupper will probably be just as happy to take a nap at home in the meanwhile.
