HELP. Tully's can't walk

I'm so sorry to hear about Tully and Kis and wish I had a suggestion but I don't. It sounds like there are some good ideas here though, I hope one works for Tully! Facebook groups are a great idea too, I've found some of the specialized groups on there can be really helpful.

I'm sorry all this is happening at once, Caro. It's a lot to deal with for sure. Praying you find a solution that works. :hugs

Have you looked at the Help em up harness? We tried the towel with Katy when Cushings started making walking difficult and towels didn't work for us. The harness really helped but Katy still had some strength left in her legs so it stabilized her and allowed us to help her walk. Not sure if the Help em Up Harness could be adapted she was still walking when she passed with help from the harness so it never became an issue for us of trying to get it to give her more support. We just needed it to stabilize her, help her up and down, on stairs, etc.

I mention it because I had no idea there was such a thing until our Dog PT mentioned it and she wore it until the day she passed despite the fact she was generally not a fan of equipment in general. She found it pretty easy to wear and liked that it was less painful when she was getting help.

Atm we're doing with a rope lead at either end, she will pee if I really make her but she hasn't pooped in several days. I'm just hoping the Specialist tomorrow will give us a brace so she can at least balance herself to poop. Doesn't help that it's bucketing rain the last couple of days.

She managed to hobble from the bedroom to the lounge this morning - honestly this girl has so much grit and determination. That's why I couldn't pts she wants to keep going. But she is miserable.

I might still try the pvc - without the wheels she could at least stand to eat, which she dearly wants to. Maybe if she was completely strapped into the frame she wouldn't tip out. And thanks Cindy - I have a lot of human walkers so I'll try that too.

Thanks for all the offers but Tully is pretty small (>13"), so probably wouldn't fit in things.

Kismet is absolutely miserable and wants cuddles all the time and can't understand why I'm giving Tully attention. I think either she still has something in her ear or it's an infection. I can see more surgery on the cards for her.

I'm so tired. Thanks for your support guys.

Caro I hope the specialist can aid you in some way. It must be so hard to watch this. We all support you from afar, but it sounds like she is near the end of the road. I can only imagine the energy you have put into helping her have her best life for so very long. All the while dealing with your own health issues, family crises, and other dogs having various illnesses. You know Tully best, we've all been there with our pups and pray that the answer will be so obvious that we have no regrets.

We are here. :hugs

Woohoo, Tully finally pooped. I had the flyball harness at the front and rope lead for the back, only problem is she's still a poo walker, even when she can't, and she had to walk over to the appropriate spots to toilet. Oh my aching back.

And then Tully hobbled up the ramp while I was picking it up. Superdog she is. She may feel a little better because I gave her a full dose of steroids today.

Despite what they may say tomorrow, she's not ready to go. So I guess we can wait a month for a proper harness. But it's going to need long handles because my back can't handle bending. Going to get out a stroller so I can push her around with me in the house, and keep her confined and away from Della.

I found something similar to the Help em up on Amazon.au for less. It's $75 but I can get it in the next couple of days. Just got to see if I can put long handles on it.

Had 3 hours sleep last night - Kismet decided to throw up next to the bed at 3.30 this morning. Vomit had wood chip in it so I assume one of the cats threw up in the courtyard tanbark. She does have an antibiotic in her ear from the infection from the foxtail in her ear but I'm hoping it's not that.

I am seriously sleep deprived. I've run out of wet cat food so the cats are peeved with me (I brought some supermarket stuff - perhaps why there was vomit in the garden), run out of Kismet food, and run out of blood pressure meds, but I'm too tired for anything but a trip to the Specialist and to make up Tully's dinner (which Kis will have to eat too). At least someone is walking Kismet for me.So hard having a sick senior.
