We just measured Porter after weeks and weeks of not growing at all, he measured 16" right on the dot today.

Argh!:( My heart is breaking. What is the chance he will not grow anymore or drop a bit when he settles. Sheltie sizes stink.

Sca definetely shrunk. I am almost positive he was over 18 at one point now I think he might be just a hair less than 18. Perfectly in spec for showing

    as a Border Collie

I feel your pain. No, really. You've seen Beckon. Sheer perfection...Musashi & Niya's only puppy...18+ inches...life is crap...

Oh no! Porter, STOP growing, do you hear? Or no more cookies! That is just awful. You wait and wait and watch a wonderful show prospect and poof...you're out. It just isn't fair. :dead:

Fingers are crossed that Porter grows out now instead of up.

There's a chance that he'll settle... but a big dog is a big dog. Are you prepared for him to measure out? The handler does have some control over the measuring process (you set the dog, and there are some things you can do to shave off a little height), but again, big is big. Even if he's right at 16", judges might not be keen on using him because of his size and substance.

I'm sorry to hear this. It's so, so hard (so frustrating!) to put so much time and effort and love into a show prospect, and then see them go over. It's always really tough.

Yes it is so frustrating. We had Kramer who we placed because he forgot to grow and now Porter who doesn't know when to stop. Seriously he had not grown for almost 5 weeks and then Bam! he is 16" Yes he was looking bigger but it was all coat.

What to do. Sigh.:( I don't know if I have the temperment for this show business.

Oh this must be frustrating for you... I know this discussion has been had before but I do wish there was some wiggle room in the upper end of the standard. I know I'm biased as two of my three Shelties have been oversize by quite a bit, but I really like them on the bigger side myself.

Anyway hope Porter stops growing! I know you'll love him whatever happens, though.

That is such a shame, I know how heart broken the breeder we got Mikos from was when she had to place him because he went over height. It seems like so many that have such great show potential but cross that 16" mark.

Grrrrr I know what you are talking about...Six has done the same thing to me...however he stopped at 16...which is ok except for the fact when you bring a wicket to him he makes himself taller...crazy dog....you supposed to make yourself smaller....sigh...he will relax the second time I measure him...but honestly right now I am not comfortable showing him until he pulls himself together, and in the meantime and hoping he will settle atleast 1/4" so I have some wiggle room....

Welcome to the world of shelties..its a crap shoot and a heart breaker!
